Think all your problems are leaving your body as you exhale. | Stabilize emotions Talk to the person in a crisis situation in a very calm and warm tone. Tell them to relax and focus on the positive aspects. Listen to them and let them express themselves. |
Link to Social support Connect the person as soon as possible to the social support groups, family members, friends, neighbors or community helping resources. | Provide Information Provide the client information that may help them cope effectively with the crisis situation and encourage them to play an active role in the recovery. |
Listen to them Some people really want you to listen to them and even this helps them. Be ready and patient to listen to them. Stay focused on what they are trying to tell you and how you can help them. | Remember the goal of Psychological First Aid Always remember that the goal of psychological first aid is to reduce discomfort and provide emotional and physical support to people. Promote adaptive functioning and make a referral as their condition gets stable. |
