Greetings Catholic East Families,

We are beginning our 4th week of school next week! With our supportive community and prayer, we are off to a strong start. It has been a joy being in classrooms. Scholars are getting into a routine and starting to dig more into content. Scholars are starting to work on curriculum such as Daily 5, Zearn, and Words Their Way. Our dedicated teachers are communicating about classroom happenings and homework through folders, newsletters, and email.

This week, we started MAP testing and testing will continue into next week as well. This is an adaptive assessment to measure growth and progress in the areas of reading and math. The results will serve as data that will help guide instruction.

We want families involved and part of our community. If you are looking to volunteer, please ensure you have registered for Safeguarding. The upcoming sessions for Safeguarding are  September 20, 2017 3:00PM - 6:00PM and September 27, 2017 12:00PM - 3:00PM. Both sessions are being held in the concession area of the Saints Peter and Paul Campus located at the entrance off Greenwich.

Back to School Night is Wednesday, September 20th from 6:00-7:30. This is a great opportunity to get to know the teachers and curriculum. We will have a rotation schedule. The period begins with a formal presentation from the teacher. There will be a 15 minute passing period to allow for questions and travel time to the next class.

Period 1, 6:00-6:15-Presentation from the teacher.

Passing Period 1-6:15-6:30

Period 2, 6:30-6:45-Presentation from the teacher.

High School Info Night is Thursday, September 28th beginning at 6:00. This event is mandatory for all 8th graders. Admission counselors from the high schools will be at the event and this is a chance to ask questions, set up shadow dates, and have the admissions counselors meet your scholar. 6th and 7th graders are highly encouraged to attend.

Girls’ Volleyball will have their first games on September 16th at Catholic East. 5th and 6th grade play at 9am and 7th and 8th graders play at 2:00pm. Go Eagles!

Safeguarding Update and Campus Ministry

Hello Catholic East Families!

For those of you who do not know me, my name is Kristen Dahlgren and I am the Campus Minister here at Catholic East Elementary. This is my 5th year here at Catholic East. I love being part of this community and find my work to be blessed. It is well worth the long drive I have to be with your scholars and talk to them every day about God's Word. I will be working hard on sending out a Saintly Scribble at least once a Month talking about my Campus Ministry role and special things happening.

Today I wanted to send you a message about Safeguarding Program. I just finished my very first Safeguarding Class for this school year with a wonderful small group. Thank you to those families who came and received the Safeguarding training. As you may already know from the information sheet in the beginning of the school year packet, in order to volunteer for any Archdiocesan Organization (the school) you must go through Safeguarding Training. This is a one time training. If you have not yet been trained I recommend you do so, just in case you have the opportunity to go on a field trip later this school year. I would love to have as many people as possible be trained so we never have to tell someone no due to not having the training. I have two more classes coming up this month here at Catholic East:

If these Days/Times do not work for you there are many other opportunities all over the Milwaukee Archdiocese that can be found on the website. You do not have to take the class here at Catholic East.  There are many opportunities to volunteer and be involved in the school that you need to be safeguard trained for. For example going on field trips, coaching a sport, helping in the classroom, and the wonderful group of moms who have been a huge help with lunch duties. If you would like to help with lunch duties contact our Principal Ms. Jones and let her know when you would be able to come and help. The teachers would appreciate it more than you could imagine. We want families to be involved and are very sad when we have to tell families they cannot volunteer due to not being safeguard trained.

If you would like to attend the Safeguarding class you must register online click HERE for instructions.

If you have completed this you do not need to attend again. The training is good for life.  If you have any questions with registering or about Safeguarding please contact me.

God Bless,

Mrs. Kristen Dahlgren

Snow Days, Heat Index Days and Early Closure

In the event that schools are closed for the day due to weather conditions, every effort will be made to contact parents/guardians personally. This is one reason why it is important to inform the school immediately of any changes in phone numbers, emergency contacts, etc. Parents/guardians are encouraged to listen to local radio and television stations for weather related announcement or check online for postings. Closing school due to severe weather conditions is coordinated with the MILWAUKEE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM. Catholic East Elementary School will follow the directives on closing of the Milwaukee Public School District (the stations/web pages will indicate “Milwaukee Public and Private Schools”) for school closings due to extreme weather conditions. However, Catholic East will also be published online, as well. Stay tuned to the following radio /TV stations or go online for school closing updates:

For any other emergency at Catholic East Elementary School, we will do our best to contact you before the children leave home for school.
