The Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy is a state program that recognizes students who have attained a high level of proficiency in one or more languages in addition to English.  Mundelein High School will award the Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy to Mundelein High School students who have studied and attained proficiency in two languages by their high school graduation.  Students must demonstrate a high level of proficiency in English as well as reading, writing, listening and speaking in another language.  

Students receiving this recognition will have the Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy placed on their diploma and noted in their official transcript.  This achievement demonstrates that these students have the 21st century skills to communicate on a global level.  

Requirements:

In order to receive the Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy, students must meet the identified criteria.  To earn the Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy a combination of one from each category is needed:

English Language:

Foreign Language:

AP Language score of 4 or 5.

AAPPL (ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Language) score of I-5 or better.

Stamp 4S (Standards-based Measurement of Proficiency) score of 6 or better.

The majority of Mundelein High School students who have received the Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy scored a 4 or 5 on the AP Spanish language exam, and an 18 or higher on the ELA reading and writing portions of the ACT exam.
