Summer Reading        

ROCK & ROLL WITH TOPHER July 2 @ 3 pm

This show is bound to have you moving, singing, shaking a maraca, or beating a drum. Topher has a unique way of engaging the whole family musically through a highly animated experience. This is a show jammed full of stories, songs and drum alongs perfect for young families to enjoy this summer.  Topher was a huge hit during the 2016 Summer Reading program.  He had kids playing the drums and parents dancing around!  

Musical Tuesdays!  July 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 and August 7 @ 2 pm  Bring your child on Tuesdays to watch a classical musical on our giant, flat screen TV.  Munch on free popcorn while enjoying the musical.

Revisiting the Founding Era Discussions Join Dr. Richard Newman from RIT on July 11 @ 6 pm for a discussion how the Black Lives Matter movement of today relates to this historical period.  Also, don’t miss Pal-Mac AP History teacher, Matthew Robbins on August 28 @ 6:30 pm.  Robbins will guide high school students and adults as they analyze how contemporary debates over federal versus state power, the balance of freedom and national security, and America’s role in aiding refugees relates to the controversies of the Founding Era.

Wednesday Night Karaoke @ 6 pm  July 18, 25 and August 1,8, 22 & 29  Community members of all ages are invited to come and sing their favorite songs.  We will have a karaoke machine connected to our giant, flat screen TV for participants to follow along with the lyrics.  On August 1, Wayne Fox will join us for a special John Denver-themed night of karaoke.  

Fiddlers of the Genesee  July 14 @ 2 pm  Families can enjoy lively, old-time fiddling in the coolness of the Community Room.  All ages welcome to attend this Saturday performance sponsored by the Friends.  

Derby Dan’s American Music Rocks! July 16 @ 2 pm  This family program chronicles the roots of American music through the years, including early folk songs, songs from Stephen Foster, Woody Guthrie and early rock. Instruments featured are the banjo, mandolin, ukulele, harmonica and more.  This light-hearted, audience interactive show also features ventriloquist partner Hubert the lovable hound dog.

A Cat and a Hat with Cris Johnson July 23 @ 2 pm  This fun-filled, Dr Seuss themed program is a magical, Seussical spectacular! It has Seuss-themed magic tricks designed to bring Seuss stories to life while also focusing on the critical life lessons these classical stories highlight. The program is both useful in promoting good character and an appreciation for good literature.  Children age 3 and up will enjoy the antics and excitement Cris offers in every show he does!

Let the Magic Begin with Harry Potter

Hear local attorney, Denise Munson, read a few chapters of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone aloud on Saturday, June 30. Keep reading the book on your own each week.  Check in weekly with us and, if you complete the book, attend a special “Wizards-in-Training” Party on July 28 at 2pm.  (For students entering grades 3-6).

Newbery Challenge Party  Challenge yourself to read six Newbery Award winning books.  If you complete the goal, attend a fun party on Monday, August 13 at noon.  Must register at the library before July 2.

Caldecott Challenge Party Read a variety of Caldecott winning children’s books and be invited to a fun party on Monday, August 13 @ 2 pm.  Must register at the library before July 2.

End of Summer Reading Party August 15 @ 5 pm All children who register for summer reading between June 18 and June 30 are invited to attend a fun celebration at the end of the summer.  Be a rockstar at the party and have a delicious treat to eat!  Please register separately if planning on attending (to ensure plenty of party supplies are on hand).  

TEEN TIME  Fridays, July 6,13,20,27 & August 3 @ 2 pm Teens age 13 and up who register for summer reading will not want to miss out on this special time at the library.  Play games, make a snack to eat, watch a flick or just hang out with your friends.

TEEN LOCK-IN  August 10 @ 5-10 pm All teens who register to participate in summer reading are invited to participate in this fun celebration.  Parental permission will be required in advance of the lock-in.

Music Lessons Duquesne University music student, Tori Reid, is able to teach those age 12 and up beginning piano or voice.  Tori is a Music Education major with field experience and the Valedictorian of Pal-Mac Central School District’s Class of 2015.  Thanks to funding from Friends of Macedon Public Library, each lesson will only cost $5.  Lessons run for six weeks.  Register for a variety of convenient time slots at the library. Repeated studies have shown youth involved in music programs achieve much more in their academic pursuits.

Preschool Music Class Tuesdays, June 5-August 7 @ 2 pm  Drop-in to this fun music class for four and five year old children.  Participants will learn some simple songs and discover some basic instruments.  Simple movements will also be integrated into the class.

Romp Through Rock ‘n Roll Tuesdays, July 3-August 7 @ 6:30 pm This is a fun music program targeted at people of all ages, especially families.  Go back in time and talk a bit about the evolution of Rock ‘n Roll.  Youngsters will learn about the classics of the past and develop an appreciation for music from other generations.  Participants will enjoy singing along to all sorts of fun golden oldies leading up to the present time, too.
