Brittany Adcock’s Action Research Outline

  1. What is the topic of your action research?
  1. The effectiveness of using the blended learning model (station rotation) in a first grade classroom for math instruction.
  1. What is the purpose of your study?
  1. I want to see if I began using the blended learning model during my guided math block would change my students data.  I have kids every year on so many different levels, and I haven’t been able to find a way to plug the gaps quickly and effectively.  Blended Learning seems to be a viable option.
  1. What is your fundamental research question?
  1. Will the blended learning model (station rotation model) increase my student’s math achievement?
  1. What is your research design?
  1. I will focus my research design around the quantitative research.  Since my question is focused on achievement, I will be looking at tested data to see growth.
  1. What type of data will you collect?
  1. My district takes beginning of year, middle of year, and end of year math assessments that are created by our district math coordinator.  I will be looking at the scores and growth.  I want to focus on scores of students that score really low in the beginning, and see if they progress and at what rate.
  1. What types of measurements will you use?
  1. District created math assessments
  1. What is the focus of your literature review?
  1. I will be focusing on data.  I want to see what did schools use to decide if the blended learning model was effective.  I have not been able to find a lot of data in previous literature reviews.  Most schools discuss how the feel of the school changed, but I have found many saying they have not been able to find programs that align with their curriculum and teachers can not seem to figure out how to use the data to guide their instruction.
