Audience profiling
Looking at the data from Pearl and Dean I have identified that films with similar characteristics to mine tend to have a slightly larger female audience, although it is balanced quite evenly. Demographic is mostly focused around the ABC1 social status.
I have cross-referenced this with the Audience Finder and identified my target audience as being part of the Metroculturals - whose key characteristics are that they are very engaged in the arts (likely to attend an art event each week), highly educated and have a wide variety of interests. I think my film would appeal to them as it contains ambiguous imagery which they would find engaging.
Metroculturals tend to be single, or have no children, which leaves them with free time to explore more unconventional films. Data also shows they often read for pleasure, which suggests the individuals are analytical - which also allows them to enjoy the subtle themes (eg. rich vs poor) within my film. This audience would also fit in BFI's Aficionados category.
Charlotte is a single, white, middle class woman in her late 20’s. She lives in London, in an apartment she rents with money earned from her job as an assitant book editor. She obtained her bachelors degree in Journalism and mass communication, and also completed her masters degree in Publishing and Editing.
Charlotte finds most of her news on The Guardian and The Times, and occasionally consumes articles in the Metro.
She often reads for pleasure, and enjoys attending exhibitions. Along with watching mainstream films with her friends on the weekends, she also occasionally go to the cinema after work to watch specialised films. She enjoys films that are engaging, and make her think, however she consumes mainstream media to be apart of the conversation and as a nice way to socialise. As an editor, she is attracted to unique storylines and recognising creative influences within movies.
She has an instgram account which she uses to keep in contact with friends and family, and also follows several film and book accounts which provide her with recommendations. She uses twitter to gather news, but also as a platform to share her opinions on recent book and movie releases.
