Summer Reading Guidelines
READING EXPECTATIONS: 3 CHAPTER BOOKS
- Choose 1 that challenges you or is a new genre.
- Choose 1 that you are super excited about!
- Graphic novels are always loved but do not count as a summer chapter book.
CHOOSING BOOKS: The Choice Board offers 9 genres with a range of lengths/levels
- Each book cover links to a summary for easy perusal.
- Any book in a listed series counts. You CAN choose multiple books from a series.
- AR Points are now listed on the Choice Boards so DO pay attention for a good fit.
- Feel free to choose books from the 5th grade choice boards for an extra challenge!
WHERE TO FIND MY BOOKS
- Use Amazon, other online stores, libraries, bookstores or swap with friends!
- Audio books and ebooks are often available for free at your public library.
- Audio books DO count.
REQUIRED TASKS - AFTER I READ MY BOOKS
- Take an AR test on EACH book (you may take as many AR tests as you like)r)
- Complete a Windows and Mirrors sheets HERE for EACH of your books: Please be thoughtful. Windows/Mirrors is a framework we use to reflect on how we feel, think, respond and process the world around us. It helps us become more aware of the experiences, perspectives and feelings of both ourselves and others.
ACCELERATED READER (AR) PROGRAM
- AR Point Levels are provided on the Choice Boards.
- Take the AR test while the book is fresh.
- Points accumulated during the summer count towards your rising grade goal.
