Extra Recess for a Great Cause!

Which buddy team will win the great SES Penny War? Please help your child earn some fun extra recess as well as help the SES community reach a donation goal of $1,700 for STG (Staples Tuition Grants.) We have only raised around $400 - vacation may have slowed us down, but the efforts are still on, so please help your child collect loose change (silver coins go in the opponent’s jar!). Dollar bills are worth 100 positive points and a twenty dollar bill boosts a whopping 2,000 points! The STG Saugatuck Elementary School Community Award will be awarded to a deserving Staples senior this spring. THE DRIVE HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO FRIDAY, MARCH 8th!

“Dress As A Favorite Book Character” Spirit Day is Wednesday, March 6th!

In honor of Read Across America Week, students and staff are encouraged to wear something inspired by any book character on March 6th. Have fun -- we look forward to seeing many Cat in the Hats, Harry Potters, Willy Wonkas and more roaming the halls to help us celebrate this national week of literacy! Please be sure send appropriate footwear for recess.

RULER Program News

Thank you for attending the district meeting earlier this month about the mood meter. This tool is being used in classrooms to help our children think about 'naming their emotions' and expanding their emotional vocabulary. Click here to read a thought-provoking article that speaks to these themes, and the importance of "emotional granularity",  from National Public Radio (NPR).

✴ The Saugatuck Spotlight

This week we get to know totally terrific Kindergarten teacher, Amy Howland.

If I could be any color in the crayon box I would be (and why) . . . orange because it is a bright and cheerful color. It has always been one of the colors that I love to see in a beautiful design.

If I could only eat one food for the rest of my life it would be . . . Colony Grill pizza.

The last thing I watched on tv was . . . the Rangers game.

My favorite song is . . . "The Greatest" by Sia. I love lots of different songs and I'm always coming across new favorites!

If I wasn’t a teacher I would want to be . . . an ice cream truck driver.
