The following courses are available AT ALL TIMES:

Course Waivers and Substitutions

Course Substitutions: SUD Course Requirements are officially approved by the SUD Advising committee. Nonetheless, requests for course substitutions are not uncommon, especially in the area of Electives. Requests for substitutions will be considered on a case-by-case basis and must be approved by the SUD Director, Dr. Hugh Bartling. You must contact Dr. Bartling (hugh.bartling@depaul.edu) with your request prior to enrolling in the course of interest.

Course Waivers: If you have substantial prior skills in a subject area (for example Geographic Information Systems (GIS)), or hold a current full time job and therefore cannot complete the internship, you may be able to get a course waiver. If a waiver is granted, thirteen courses are still needed to complete the MA degree. The course waived will be replaced by an elective agreed upon with the consent of the Program Director.

The SUD Internship

The Master’s Program in Sustainable Urban Development has a required internship attached to the Capstone Course (SUD 501). The internship does not to be pursued while enrolled in the capstone course; it may be pursued and achieved prior to or after. Please address all SUD internship-related questions to Dr. Howard Rosing (hrosing@depaul.edu).

Policy for Pursuing Multiple Graduate Certifications at DePaul:

Per the Graduate Student Handbook:

“Course work credit leading to a graduate degree program in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences may be double-counted toward ONE approved, paired, graduate certificate program. If a student seeks another (second or more) LAS certificate, and those certificate program requirements are again completely comprised of course work leading to the student’s graduate degree, then the student must take at least two additional courses in order to earn the additional certificate(s).”

Graduate Research Funds

If you wish to attend a conference, or are doing research, you are strongly encouraged to apply for graduate research funds: https://las.depaul.edu/student-resources/graduate-research/Pages/default.aspx
