Now that we've learned how to recognize a vowel team syllable, we'll learn about the vowel sound. Every syllable must have a vowel sound. In a syllable pattern, the two vowels represent one vowel sound. Watch how I use the pattern to read the vowel team syllables. First, I find the vowel letters. I've got two. The syllable is a vowel team. Since it's a vowel team, I will pronounce only one vowel sound. Sound, syllable MP. Watch what I do if the syllable doesn't follow the vowel team syllable pattern. I touch under the vowel letter with my pointer finger, but there's only one vowel letter. This is not a vowel team syllable, so I'm just going to set it aside.
