Both the Town of Antigonish and the Municipality of the County of Antigonish offer a Property Tax Exemption to low-income homeowners for their primary residence.
👉 Applications are due by the end of June each year.
Town of Antigonish
Residents who are currently living in their home and have an annual household income of $25,000 or less are eligible to apply for a reduction of up to $400. Apply by filling out a form and returning it to Town Hall. You must sign it under Oath (free of cost at Town Hall) to complete the application.

County of Antigonish
Low income homeowners may qualify for a $200 reduction on their Property Taxes if their total household income was less than $30,000 in the previous tax year. Applications are accepted between July 1st and December 31st.

You must file for a tax rebate from the County before you can apply for the Provincial Rebate. Applications are accepted from March until December 31st.

Low-income seniors can get up to $800 to cover 50% of your municipal tax bill and other municipal taxes like Fire Services from the Province. You must be up-to-date on your tax filings and apply during the same year as your tax bill. If you received a rebate from the Town or County that amount will be deducted from your claim.

Whether you own or rent, Efficiency Nova Scotia offers free products, buy-back programs and rebates on energy-saving products: from lightbulbs to insulation. Rebates increase based on your income.
If your household earned less than $44,000 (more than one person) or $29,000 (one person), you can apply for up to $200 to help pay for your winter heating costs.
👉You must apply before March 31st of each year. An application takes about 8 weeks to be processed.

The Down Payment Assistance Program (DPAP) assists Nova Scotians with modest incomes who pre-qualify for an insured mortgage to purchase their first home. Eligible participants can apply to receive an interest-free repayable loan of up to five per cent of the purchase price of a home.
There are many requirements to meet to be eligible for this program.
