Dear Parents and Guardians,
Please enjoy our Friday Update where we share important updates about coming events in our school and our community. We have 11 updates this week.
Report cards went home yesterday. You should have had a chance to let your child’s teacher know if you prefer an interview time on Thursday evening or Friday morning.
Staff will try their best to accommodate your request, but please keep in mind that most staff will be meeting with 50+ parents in these two days. A letter with your interview time will go home on Monday.
Please note that there will be no Spanish class on Thursday, November 22 due to the parent-teacher interviews.
We will be having a Remembrance Day ceremony on Monday at 9:30 am. The choir and several classes will perform. Parents are welcome!
Congratulations to Mme Clode, who will be retiring on November 30th, after 30 years of teaching. We were lucky enough to have her with us in her last 10 years. We will miss you Mme Clode and wish you all the best!
A reminder that photo Retake day is this Tuesday, November 13.
If students would like to have a retake picture, they need to bring to the photographer their Proof Package Envelope. Thank you!
There are many items we have at home and at school that can be sorted. We can sort by size, colour, type of item. Ask your child to find items they can sort (e.g., leaves outside, toys, lego, books, clothes).
Have your child collect items (e.g., leaves, toys, books). Have them compare and order numbers (e.g., which group has more/less, put in order of size-smallest to biggest).
Yearbook Cover Contest, from Mme Gordon:
Calling all RPPS artists! This year we are having a Yearbook Cover Contest! The winner will have his/her artwork displayed as the front cover for our school's yearbook.
Submissions are due by Monday, November 26th. (No late entries permitted!) Students are encouraged to drop off an original colour drawing (8 1/2" X 11") that represents "Why I love RPPS!" to the office. Please have your child sign his/her name, and indicate their Grade, in the bottom right corner of their drawing. Good luck and Get Drawing!
News from Ms. Bickford and Mme. Clement from FAIR Club:
Thank you to RPPS staff, students and families for your donations to FAIR club's "We Scare Hunger" food drive. Over 15 large boxes of food (at least 350 items) were picked up this past Thursday by the Rideau Rockcliffe Community Resource Centre, for their emergency food cupboard. They were very happy to receive such a generous generation from our RPPS family!
From Mrs. Hawley:
Again this December, the Rockcliffe Park School Community will be giving Christmas Baskets to families in need.
We partnered with the nearby Vanier school, (Robert E. Wilson) a couple of years ago in an effort to give needy families gifts, holiday food and treats.
Participating homeroom classes at Rockcliffe Park School sponsor a family. Parents and children will learn the needs of their class' family and will be invited to send in gifts, food and treats.
The Robert E. Wilson Public School Community were extremely appreciative of our Christmas Baskets last year. We have decided to continue this kind and giving gesture this holiday season!
From Mrs Coe:
We had an WITS assembly yesterday where grade 6 students helped students learn to use their WITS (Walk away, Ignore, Talk it out, Seek help).
School Council will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, November 13th, 2018 at 7:00 PM in the school library. All RPPS Families are welcome!

Book Fair News:
Book Fair 2018 was another great success! Between Nov. 2-4, we grossed over $55,000 in used book sales and baked goods. The final figure will be announced soon, after expenses and calculations are complete.
Thank you to all the RPPS families, Principal Katia, RPPS teachers and custodial staff for their help and support during the two weeks of set-up and the three days of the fair. A special thank-you to the Book Fair committee, who work throughout the year to plan for our school’s main fundraiser. We will be holding a volunteer thank-you party at the end of November. Details to follow.
The book donation bins are currently closed and will remain closed until Spring 2019.
Book Fair committee’s next meeting will be Thursday, Dec. 6 at 7 pm in the school library. Everyone is welcome to take part in the post-fair debrief. Questions, comments, suggestions and new members are welcome!
