2020 CAPE 31 SEASON

A. The following changes are made to the SUPPLEMENTARY SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:

Under Supplementary Sailing Instruction 2. RULES, add:

b.  As permitted by RRS 86.3, with the written permission of the National Authority, the definition of START in the RRS is changed to read:

“A boat starts when, having been entirely on the pre-start side of the starting line at or after her starting signal, and having complied with RRS 30.1 if it applies, any part of her hull crosses the starting line in the direction of the first mark.”

c.  In RRS 44.2 insert after the first sentence: “However, if Mark 1a is set, a boat may delay taking a penalty for an incident in the zone around Mark 1, on the leg between Mark 1 and Mark 1a, or in the zone around Mark 1a, until she has passed and left the zone around Mark 1a.  This changes RRS 44.2.

d.  For the purpose of RRS 49, the definition of deck on a Cape 31 includes the inclined surface between the “horizontal” surface of the deck and the sides of the boat.

e.  Class Rule 24.1 g) currently reads:

“Boom vang purchase not to exceed 16:1.”

This is changed to read:

“Boom vang purchase not to exceed 32:1.”

f.  Class Rule 27.2 f) currently reads:

“One reef position shall be fitted. The reef shall be fully functional and positioned to allow the leech and head to pass under the backstays under tension. Minimum Luff length reduction of 1300 mm.”

This is changed to read:

“One reef position shall be fitted and the reef shall be fully functional.  The minimum luff length reduction shall be 1300 mm.”

B.  The following change is made to the NOTICE OF RACE:

NOR 16. INSURANCE is deleted.  It was intended merely as a recommendation, and is not a rule in the NOR.
