Merrell Lane Memorial Aviation Scholarship

 

The Merrell Lane Memorial Aviation Scholarship was established in memory of Merrell Lane, co-founder and the first Chairman of the Niagara Military Affairs Council (NIMAC). Each year NIMAC awards a $1500 scholarship to a well deserving enlisted member assigned to the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station who is in pursuit of an aviation related career.

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

                - Age 18 - 30

                - Enlisted member currently assigned to the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station

                - Enrolled in an aviation related curriculum at an accredited College/University with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Aviation related fields include, but are not limited to, A&P Mechanic, Aeronautical Engineer, Aviation Educator, Air Traffic Controller, Flight Attendant, Commercial or Airline Pilot OR member is enrolled in an accredited private pilot licensing program.

 

                Note: If you are enrolled in an accredited private pilot licensing program you must have soloed from a flight school and have a logbook endorsement.

 

To apply, mail your application along with the following:

1. A typed, double-spaced essay between 250-300 words on the subject "Why I Wish to Pursue a Career in Aviation". Include in this essay any contributions you have made to the aviation community and your future plans as they relate to aviation.

2. A letter of recommendation from an individual in the aviation industry (no relatives).

3. If applying based upon your enrollment at an accredited college/university, please enclose a copy of your latest college transcript or proof of acceptance into an aviation related post-secondary education program.

4. If applying based upon your enrollment in an accredited private pilot licensing program, please include a letter of recommendation from your flight instructor or flight school official and a copy of your medical and solo endorsement.
