Background
The Alliance for Youth Organising is looking for co-leads to support us to deliver on our mission.
We are an intergenerational group of organisers and campaigners from across the UK working to shift power and money to young people. We support young people to organise towards change that serves them and their communities. We prioritise social, economic, racial, disability, gender and environmental justice in all we do.
Since our launch two years ago, we have:
- Designed a strategy that aims to:
- strengthen political education for young people
- improve disability inclusion in youth organising
- find and fund work in 'youth organising deserts'
- promotes international solidarity
- and ultimately connect and strengthen the field of youth organising.
- Moved over £1 million to youth organising groups across the UK in the pursuit of these aims.
You can read more about all of this work here.
To propel this work, we are now recruiting two co-leads who can work with us to:
- Consolidate and share the learning from these investments and from the wider field of youth organising. Use this to influence funders to drive more and better money to youth organising.
- Strengthen our grantmaking:
- help us design supportive and accessible funding approaches that get money into the hands of youth organisers
- provide hands-on support to our partners so they can do their best work.
- Support us to deepen our networks and knowledge as we aim to strengthen the field of youth organising and create fertile conditions for those that follow.
- Manage our operations and communications:
- finding time and space for us to meet
- supporting us to deliver key projects and plans
- sharing information and updates with our partners and the field of youth organising.
These roles will sit within the Civic Power Fund, who host the Alliance for Youth Organising. However, they are accountable to the Alliance to deliver on our workplan and mission.
As well as these co-leads, we are also seeking two external facilitators who will:
- Support us to design our strategy and workplan and make collective decisions
- Provide coaching to support us as individuals and as a collective to learn, develop and do our best work.
The co-leads will work with the Alliance, the Civic Power Fund and these facilitators to deliver on the priorities below.
We are seeking co-leads as this is too much work for one person! We also know that people will bring different but complementary skills and experiences to this work. And we want to trial new ways of working that centre collective leadership. In all we do, we aim to be experimental and regenerative - trialing structures and approaches that build solidarity and help the field learn.
We encourage people to apply either as individuals, noting which areas they hope to cover, or together, noting their complementary skills and experiences and how they would split the role.
