This class will be followed by a day-long bike adventure on the “World Famous” Elroy-Sparta Bike Trail. A mid-day picnic and swim (weather permitting) at the Wilton Park will be part of the adventure. A geared bike in good working condition and helmet are required. Permission slip and informational letter will be provided to registered students. This class is open to students entering 5th grade through students entering 12th Grade.

Course Description:Students will learn canoeing skills and water safety during classroom instruction. The class will be followed by a day trip canoe adventure on the scenic Black River. This class is open to students entering 5th grade through students entering 12th grade.

Course Description: Students will have the opportunity to camp at one of our great County parks. For 3 days and 2 nights, students will be able to fish, hike, explore, play games, have discussions of the different constellations, plan and prepare meals, and develop new friendships. We will be giving back to the park as we spend a little of our time helping them with maintenance/cleaning things that need to be done. We will also be talking about respect and trust of others and their belongings, as well as personal privacy.

Course Name: Drivers’ Education
Drivers’ Education Has Found a Parking Place at WASD Summer School
The Westby Area School District is pleased to add the Classroom portion of Drivers’ Education to its Summer School curriculum.
The 30 hour online class will be FREE OF CHARGE to students as long as the 30 hours are completed by July 31, 2025. This is a $120 savings to families.
The instructor, Mr. Kelly Olson of Street Smarts Driving School, will partner with TeachSafe Online Driving School to provide the students with the required information and hours for Wisconsin Licensure. The class is available to students who will be 14 years of age by or before June 1st, 2025.
Students can complete 2 hours/day and may work at their own pace. Chromebooks will be available to check out from Westby Schools if needed. The permit test will be administered at WES in mid July and early August where students will have the option to take the permit test.
Registration is open through June 1, 2025.
Those registering will receive a welcome email from Street Smarts on June 2nd with instructions for the course.

Course Description: Curious about joining cross country? Want to go for runs but rather do it with a buddy? Middle school running club meets to stretch, chat, and go for a relaxed run before the day gets too hot. It’s a great way to get ready for the upcoming xc season, get outside and moving, or simply just get a fun run in. All running levels welcome! Please wear comfy clothes suited to the day’s weather, sturdy running shoes, and bring a water bottle!

Course Description:This course is for students who like to solve mysteries and puzzles! Put your detective hat on to help solve escape rooms, mysteries, scavenger hunts, games of Clue, and more!
This course will take place in Ms. Hanley's room at the high school. Parents can drop off or pick up students at the lower high school doors facing the softball field.

Course Description
An action packed week of field trips! We will be traveling to a variety of outdoor activities that include a national monument visit, camping at 2 state parks, hiking, and rock climbing to name a few. The week includes 2 overnight camping trips to state parks and a full day at UW-L or Winona, MN. Permission slips and informational letters will be provided to registered students. Full details of the week will be available by the end of the school year and will be included with the permission slip.
Due to an increased number of students registering for this class and then not attending, interested students will need to fill out a paper registration form (found in your school office or from Mr. Fiske). You will not be able to register for this class online.
Course Name: Overnight Bike Adventure

Course Description: Students will extend their biking skills they learned in the one day trip and will continue practicing bicycle safety. Our trip will start in Bangor on the LaCrosse Trail and will end in Elroy (42 miles later). We will travel about 21 miles each day with an overnight stop in Norwalk. In Norwalk, we will tent along the trail where we will find restrooms, showers, and picnic shelters. A geared bike in good working condition and helmet are required. Permission slip and informational letter will be provided to registered students. This letter will also include our itinerary, meal plans, sleeping arrangements, and a list of items needed.

Course Description: Get Ready to Play & Soak Up the Sun: Join our action-packed summer school class and experience the ultimate outdoor game extravaganza! From the thrill of bag toss (corn hole) and the strategic fun of ladder golf to the classic kickball excitement and the fast-paced action of four square, get ready to unleash your competitive spirit while basking in the sunshine. Dive into a world of laughter, teamwork, and friendly competition as you master new skills, make memories, and soak up the summer vibes.
Course Name: Overnight Canoe Adventure

Course Description: Canoeing and camping await in this excursion down the Kickapoo.
Students will extend their canoeing skills they learned in the one day trip in June. Our trip will start in Ontario where we will canoe to bridge 7. We will then set up camp on the Kickapoo Valley Reserve by bridge 14. The next day we will continue from bridge 7 and end our trip at our camp at bridge 14. Permission slip and informational letter will be provided to registered students. This letter will also include our itinerary, meal plans, sleeping arrangements, and a list of items needed.

Course Name: Rockets 1

Time: 10:15am-12:15pm Fee: $7 and up
Course Description: Rockets 1 is an introduction to model rocketry. In this class each student will construct and launch a model rocket. Parents of students who sign up will receive an email in May which will outline some choices of good rocket models for beginners. Parents can reply with the selected rocket. Students will need to pay for their own rocket. Payment can be sent with students on the 1st day of class. Rocket models begin at around $7 and go up to $30 depending on which rocket you choose.

Course Description: This class is designed for students who have some experience with models. Students in this class will have the opportunity to construct challenging model rockets. We prefer students take the Rockets 1 class prior to taking this class or be in grade 5 or higher. Students who sign up will get an email in May giving them the opportunity to select their rocket. Students have to pay for their rocket. They can bring money on their first day of class. Rocket costs begin at about $10 and go up from there..

Course Description:This is a class for any male, it will run Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays throughout the entire summer. This class will increase quick twitch movement, build endurance, and develop faster athletes.

Fee: $5.00 Course Description: Explore the amazing world of science through fun experiments and activities like making elephant toothpaste, bioplastics, Oobleck, and so much more!
Science is Fun will take place in Ms. Hanley's room at the high school. She will come over to the elementary to pick up students after lunch and walk with them to the High School. Parents can pick up students after the class at the lower high school doors facing the softball field.
This course has a max occupancy of 15 students for lab safety.
There is a course fee of $5 for lab materials.

Course Name: Summer Strength Training

Course Description: Weight room will be open daily from 630-1030am. Workout booklets will be provided to students to do a 4 to 5 day per week working plan. The focus will be on core lifts, olympic lifts and general strength training.
Course Name: Tractor Safety
Grade: Ages 12 and up Location: Vernon County Fairgrounds
Dates: June 18th-20th Fee: $ 45.00
Course Description: An educational program to enhance the safety knowledge and skills for youth operating tractors and machinery on Wisconsin farms.
Dates: June 17, 18 & 19
Students can be dropped off and picked up at the Vernon County Fairgrounds. Please
bring a sack lunch each day. The fee for the course is $45 to cover materials and fuel.
Registration is due May 29th, 2025.
