FITNESS

Foundations of Physical Education (PE0900)

In Foundations of Physical Education, we will be doing a variety of activities that will focus on developing/maintaining physical fitness through individual & team activities. You are expected to participate in P.E. activities daily. Activities include football, softball, volleyball, badminton/pickleball, basketball, soccer, weight room, etc.

Prerequisites: None

Duration: 1 Semester

Lifetime Fitness   (PE1000)

This course is designed for students who want to improve their current level of fitness. Students will be taught the proper principles of training and how these principles relate to lifelong wellness.

Prerequisites: None

Duration: 1 Semester

Team Sports   (PE104S)

The purpose of the Physical Education Activity program is to offer students an instructional program that utilizes physical movement as the primary educational medium.  The program provides opportunities for students to develop and improve physical skills.  In addition, students learn rules, terminology, proper technique, and safety issues specific to each particular activity.

Prerequisites: none

Duration: 1 Semester

Advanced Athletic Conditioning  (PE1051)

This is a class designed to prepare students for interscholastic sports and other highly advanced sporting endeavors. It will cover all of the following areas: intense training in the following areas; weightlifting for strength and endurance, cardiovascular exercises, individual & team sports, specific skills emphasizing skill development as per the instructor's discretion, plyometric, speed training, agility and flexibility. Students must be highly motivated. This class will be taught at a highly advanced pace. Athletes will be expected to lift on game days. Supplies needed for class: PE Uniform, Gym Shoes, lock, and specific requirements per individual. Students will be required to create a fitness and nutrition plan.

FINE ARTS

Vocal and Instrumental Music   (MU0920)

Informal/self-directed vocal technique, music theory, Keyboard, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Ukulele, Drumset, and others with permission.  Students will develop a learning plan with instructor and demonstrate learning through individual or small group performances or recording projects.

Duration: 1 Semester

Music Production   (MU0920)

Learn how to record, sequence, loop, and mix with a digital audio workstation. Students will develop a learning plan with instructor and demonstrate learning through individual or collaborative recording projects as well as live performance opportunities.

Duration: 1 Semester

Media Arts-Video Production   (MU0920)

Students will develop self-directed individual projects focused on video story-telling.  Skills developed will include editing, live production, video capture and other related skills.  Projects will range from individual story-telling projects to group newscast styled productions.

Duration: 1 Semester

Graphic Arts I   (VT1110)

Students will learn a variety of media applications including the use of pencil, color, design, grids, painting, foils, lettering, folding of shaped boxes, vinyl, mat cutting, and digital photography.

 Duration: 1 Semester

Graphic Arts II  (VT1120)

Students in this second course in the Graphics series; students will build on the skills they learned in Graphics.

Prerequisites: Graphic Arts I

 Duration: 1 Semester

Fiber Arts 1   (VT1110)

Students will create multiple projects from a variety of mediums, including batik fabric dyeing, paper making, crochet, hand embroidery, machine embroidery, sewing, weaving, upcycling, etc.

 Duration: 1 Semester

BUSINESS & TECH SCIENCE

3D Design I   (VB0900)

Introduction to the basics of 3D design and 3D printing. Learn to create and print original designs using the Tinkercad program.

Duration: 1 or 2 Semesters

3D Design II   (VB0901)

Students in this second course in the 3D design and 3D printing series; students will build on the skills they learned in the 3D Design I course.

Prerequisites: 3D Design 1

Duration: 1 Semester

Computer Science I  (VB0980)

Computer Science Essentials introduces students to coding fundamentals through an approachable, block-based programming language where they will have early success in creating usable apps.

 Duration: 1 Semester

Computer Science II  (VB0981)

Students in this second course in the Computer Science series; students will build on the skills they learned in Introduction to Computer Science.

Prerequisites: Computer Science I

Duration: 1 Semester

Introduction to Robotics   (VB1020)

This course teaches the essentials to building and programming robots, with possible competition tie-ins.

 Duration: 1 Semester

Yearbook   (VB1110)

Provides the information needed to plan, design and produce a yearbook.  It will also cover the procedure for taking photographs. Students will meet all assigned duties on a deadline.  Instruction and assignments will include the areas of headlines and captions, publication design, digital photography, advertising design and sales & computer design.

 Duration: 1 Semester

CTE - AGRICULTURE

Woodshop I   (VT0970)

A project-based class where students learn shop safety, basic hand tools, hand-held power tools, and stationary power tools.

 Duration: 1 Semester

Woodshop Construction II  (VT107S)

This is a project based class. In this class you will continue on from Woodshop I. Students will learn more advanced tools and techniques. Students will work on framing and basic construction.

Prerequisites: Wood Shop I

Duration: 1 Semester

Ag Mechanics   (VA091S)

An intro to mechanical systems. Includes: safety, and basic electrical (both AC & DC). Projects: mock wiring, hydraulic systems, common household malfunctions, and their fixes.

 Duration: 1 Semester

Women in Trades   (VT0980)

INTRO course for those interested in learning hands-on skills through woodworking. No previous experience is necessary.

 Duration: 1 Semester

WORLD LANGUAGES

Spanish I   (WS0910)

This is an introductory language course with emphasis on speaking, listening, reading, writing, and culture.  *Native and heritage speakers of Spanish will be better served in the Spanish for Heritage Speakers courses.   

 Duration: 2 Semesters 

Spanish II   (WS1010)

This is a further development of the Spanish language with emphasis on speaking, listening, reading, writing, and culture.  This is an academic class and students are expected to study their vocabulary daily. *Native speakers of Spanish will be better served in the Spanish for Native Speakers courses.

Prerequisites: Spanish I

 Duration: 2 Semesters

Spanish III   (WS1110)

This is a more intensive study of the Spanish language with emphasis on speaking, listening, reading, writing, and culture. This class will be taught primarily in Spanish and students will be expected to use Spanish in class.  This is an academic class and students are expected to study their vocabulary daily.

Prerequisites: Spanish II

 Duration: 2 Semesters

Heritage Spanish   (WS0971 / WS0972)   This course allows students to reactivate the Spanish they have learned and develop it further, to learn more about their language and cultural heritage, to acquire Spanish literacy skills, to develop or augment Spanish academic language skills, and to enhance career opportunities.  Class is conducted in Spanish with emphasis on improvement of spelling, grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, and oral skills.  

 Prerequisites: Must be fluent speaking Spanish

 Grade Level: 9-12

 Duration: 2 Semesters

French I   (WF0910)

This is an introductory language course with an emphasis on speaking, listening, reading, writing, and culture.

 Duration: 2 Semesters

French II   (WF1010)

This is a further development of the French language with emphasis on speaking, listening, reading, writing, and culture.

Prerequisites: French I

 Duration: 2 Semesters

French III   (WF1110)

This is a further development of the French language with emphasis on speaking, listening, reading, writing, and culture.

OTHER ELECTIVES

Principles of Leadership   (LD0910)

This class is designed around experimental, hands-on learning during which students explore team building, character traits, decision-making skills, facilitation, and foundational relationship skills. Course requirements include journal writing, class participation and attendance, and accountability for knowledge of concepts and terms.

 Duration: 1 Semester

ASB Activities   (LD091S)

This class will prepare students to become leaders by helping them to develop their abilities to problem solve, work cooperatively with others, and plan events that create a positive school environment. All ASB executive officers are required to take this course, and all other elective officials are strongly encouraged.

Prerequisites: Principles of Leadership

Duration: 1 or 2 Semesters

Public Speaking   (MI1070)

We read children’s stories to practice voice inflection, tongue twisters to perfect pronunciation, and “ramble” to promote poise and effective eye contact. As a class, we prepare for and practice tournament events like Tall Tales, Impromptu Speaking, Public Forum Debate, and Congress. Individually, you’ll prepare, practice, and present your choice of a Speech, Debate, or Interpretive Event. (If you’re a Theater Arts student, those same skills transfer to “IEs” like Dramatic, Humorous, and Duo Interpretation.) And, as with other programs in the Fine Arts family, you can take Speech and Debate repeatedly for elective credit. So, get out from behind your desk, and make your teacher sit, for a change! Speech and Debate: who knew it could be so much fun?

NON-CREDIT BEARING

 Seminary   (MI0921 / MI0922)

Seminary is for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This is a Non-credit religious instruction course.  

 Duration: 2 Semester
