College Outreach | |||||||||||||||||||||
High School High Scholar (9th only) → Application due January 15! [HS]2 is a STEM-based, college access program for first-generation and/or low-income students. Students apply to [HS]2 during the fall of their freshman year, and upon admission, commit to attend the program for three summers in Colorado. Students graduate from [HS]2 the summer before their senior year and return to their home schools equipped to apply to college. Students’ five weeks in Carbondale, CO are full of academic rigor, adventure, and close-knit community. Students engage in six hours of academic classes daily and spend afternoons participating in various extracurricular opportunities. Summer Multicultural Engineering Program (SUMMET) @ CO School of Mines The Summer Multicultural Engineering Training (SUMMET) program is an engineering, science and technology program designed for rising juniors and seniors who are from underrepresented populations, including ethnic/racial minorities, women and prospective first-generation college students. SUMMET combines coursework, hands-on projects, team-building activities and social events. SUMMET provides exposure to the lifestyle, opportunities and challenges of college, and is designed to help build skills and experiences for a smooth transition from high school to college. SUMMET is a one-week residential program, allowing participants to live on campus for the duration of the program, experience life as a college student and participate in STEM-related curriculum instruction. | |||||||||||||||||||||

Teen Science Scholar @ Denver Museum of Nature and Science Each year, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science interviews and selects 20 Teen Science Scholars to work as interns within the Science Division. TSS is intended for high schoolers from underserved and/or underrepresented communities or schools. These internships provide hands-on opportunities to carry out scientific work alongside DMNS scientists, while exploring opportunities in museum and STEM careers. Scholars also participate in professional development activities, including public speaking, planning for college, and honing skills for joining the workforce. At the end of the summer, Scholars celebrate and present their work and experiences during a Showcase event. Extra college support through Minds Matter Colorado! Looking for an opportunity to volunteer? Check out Round Up River Ranch! Roundup River Ranch offers old-fashioned, pure fun camp experiences for children with serious illnesses and their families. At our beautiful Colorado ranch and through year-round activities, we offer our campers and families the chance to enjoy the most extraordinarily ordinary joys of childhood. Building Boxes for Camp Online and Joy Delivered! – an opportunity for individuals or groups to package fun supplies to be shipped to our Outreach Camp participants.
