Q: Will there be bleachers or seating for spectators?
A: Spectators are advised to bring their own seating. There will be seating for athletes.
Q: Can spectators bring tents or coverings?
A: Spectators can bring their own means of shade but must follow venue rules.
Q: Will shade and water be available for athletes?
A: Shade and water will be available for athletes.
Q: Can spectators bring pets?
A: Pets may not be allowed inside the venue but can be outside of the venue with their owner.
Q: Can I use my tripod scope?
A: Scopes are legal but must be moved if in the way of another archer.
Q: Are bow slings permitted in the barebow recurve category?
A: Bow slings are legal
Q: Will there be food for purchase at the archery venue?
A: Athletes may bring their own snacks but any venue rules for bringing in outside food and beverages must be followed. We will let athletes know if concessions will be available at the venue.
Q: Are kisser buttons and peep sights allowed for Archery competitions? In the compound release competition, are 1 pin mover type sights allowed?
A: Athletes are able to use kisser buttons and peep sights with compound bow events. They are not permitted for use with barebow bows and barebow events as they are forms of sighting and are illegal.
Q: Are archers 75+ required to shoot the same distances as younger contestants?
A: All archery age groups shoot the same distances at the National Senior Games competitions.

Q: Do I have to compete in Nationals with the same partner I qualified with?
A: Doubles partners who qualify together at the State Senior Games are not required to play together at the National Senior Games. Reference Rule E-DOUBLES PARTNERS in the current NSGA Rulebook available at NSGA.com/Rules-Regulations.
Q: How long will basketball games be?
A: At the National Senior Games, playing time shall be two halves of 15-minutes for all age groups. The exception would be for the following age divisions: 75+ women’s teams and 80+ men’s teams. If both captains of teams in these divisions agree, prior to the game, to play 12-minute halves, it shall be permissible.
Q: What size and brand of basketball is used for mens and womens competition?
A: A 28.5 ball is used for women; the circumference of the basketball shall be within a maximum of 29 inches and a minimum of 28 ½ inches. A 29.5 ball is used for men; the circumference of the basketball shall be within a maximum of 30 inches and a minimum of 29 ½ inches. When the specific brand of the ball is determined this information and other details will be available on the sport specific webpage at NSGA.com/Sports.
Q: How can I view my roster?
A: After a manager/captain completes a team registration, the roster can be viewed through the Athlete Portal, https://registration.nsga.com/portal.asp. Use your email and password to log in. Click on My Teams, then View My Teams. Select the name of your current team to view the roster.
Q: Do I have to pay a registration fee if I am just the coach and not a player?
A: Each team member (players and non-playing coaches, non-playing captains & non-playing bench personell) must pay the processing fee to be added to a team roster. Only team members who are registered and listed on the team roster will be permitted in team areas.
Q: Can my team reserve a court or field for practice?
A: Fields and Courts are on a first come first serve basis for practice. During practice the fields/courts will be monitored to make sure that teams get a fair chance to practice.
Q: Are teams allowed to bring coolers (holding water, sports drinks and soda) into the venues?
A: Water stations will be available to all athletes. The venue rules for bringing in outside food and beverages must be followed. We will let the captains of the teams know if outside items are allowed and if concessions will be available.
Q: Where can I find a player for my team that is competing at Nationals? How can I find a team to play with at the National Senior Games. The team I qualified with is not attending or already has a full roster for Nationals?
A: Many captains/team managers looking for players and qualified athletes looking for teams are successful in finding players/teams through the Team/Partner Finder accessible at NSGA.com/NationalGames. Q: Do I have to qualify for Cornhole at a State Senior Games?
A: For Cornhole qualification is not necessary. It is classified as an Open Sport for the National Senior Games and athletes will be able to enter the sport when registration begins.

Q: Do I have to compete at Nationals with the same partner I played with at the state level?
A: Doubles partners who play together in Cornhole at the State Senior Games are not required to play together at the National Senior Games. Cornhole is an Open Sport so the qualifying rules for partners do not apply to Cornhole doubles events at the National Senior Games.
Q: Will Cornhole bags be provided at the National Senior Games for cornhole?
A: Bags are provided for Cornhole.
Q: Can I preview the courses before the actual races begin?
A: You are welcome to preview the course on a day where there are no races taking place. There will be no safety implements provided by NSGA so if an athlete previews the course it will be at the athlete’s own discretion.
Q: Will there be a shaded area provided for spectators?
A: No, there will not be a shaded area provided for spectators.
Q: Will there be wheelchair access for handicapped spectators to get to the finish line and be able to watch?
A: NSGA works with local organizers to confirm venue details, such as wheelchair access for spectators. However, accommodations for spectators cannot be guaranteed at remote sites.
Q: Will there be a neutral area with basic tools and bike pump's at the TT and RR cycling events?
A: Yes, a mechanics tent will be available and a sag wagon on the course during the race.
Q: How will I get my bike to Nationals?
A: Once shipping options are determined the information will be available on the sport specific webpage at NSGA.com/Sports.
Q: Are Tri bikes allowed for the Cycling Time Trials? Do bikes have to be UCI legal or can any tri bike be used in the time trials
A: NSGA allows any Triathlon bike for the Time Trials ONLY.
Q: Are recumbent trikes allowed in the Cycling events?
A: Recumbent trikes and recumbent bikes are allowed for Recumbent Cycling categories of the Time Trials and Road Races.
Q: Will cyclists be able to enter both the regular Cycling events and the Recumbent Cycling events?
A: Athletes may compete in either the regular Cycling category or the Recumbent Cycling category per race, not both categories per race.
Q: Will there be two different divisions for the recumbent bikes and trikes?
A: There will be two divisions for the Recumbent Cycling Time Trials and Road Races - two wheel and three wheel.
Q: Are 3-wheel recumbent hand cycles permitted in the recumbent 3-wheel division?
A: Three-wheel recumbent hand cycles will not be allowed in the recumbent races.
Q: Do I have to pay for my scheduled Golf practice round?
A: Yes, however the practice round is optional.
Q: Can a friend pay the greens fee and play with me in the practice round?
A: Golf practice rounds are for registered athletes only so a friend is unable to join you during the practrice round.
Q: What golf course am I playing at?
A: Once age specific course assignments are determined the information will be available on the specific sport webpage at NSGA.com/Sports.
Q: Does the Golf Fee paid during registration include the use of a golf cart?
A: The fee includes a golf cart for use during competition rounds (not practice).
Q: How are Golf Course Assignments determined for age divisions?
A: NSGA works with the local organizers in each host community to seek out courses with similar yardages from Games to Games. Many factors are taken into consideration including slope, yardage, overall playability & difficulty, tightness of fairways, speed of greens, course conditions, etc. Each course Pro is also consulted to determine which courses and yardages will be most appropriate for the various age groups. All athletes in an age division are assigned to the same course so there is not an advantage or disadvantage to any athlete within an age group.
Q: Can my caddy ride with me in the golf cart?
A: Reference the Sport Rules under the Golf section of the current NSGA Rulebook available at NSGA.com/Rules-Regulations.
Q: Can I walk alongside my caddy?
A: Golf cart use during practice round and official competition is mandatory
Q: Can my caddy use an individual segway “pull cart” if they have one?
A: A caddy can use an individual segway golf carrier..
Q: Can my caddy be younger than 50 years old?
A: A caddy can be younger than 50 years of age.
Q: Are tee box assignments determined by handicaps?
A: Tee boxes are determined by age group.
Q: Will Pickleball courts be outside or inside?
A: Once venues are confirmed the information will be available on the specific sport webpage at NSGA.com/Sports
Q: Will athletes compete based on age and skill level or only age?
A: An Age/Skill Tournament is planned for the National Senior Games. When athletes register they will enter into their age group and must provide their current skill rating for each event they enter. For the National Senior Games age groups may be divided in up to four skill divisions. Players and doubles teams will be placed in the skill division reflective of their ratings at the time of competition. (subject to change):
Q: Do Pickleball players have to provide a skill rating?
A: Players must provide a skill rating for each pickleball event they enter. Players without an established rating must self-rate. If a rating changes between the time an athlete registers and the time of the tournament, NSGA and the tournament director reserve the right to move players to the skill division reflective of their rating at the time of competition.

Q: If my Pickleball event reaches capacity, can I place my name on a waiting list?
A: Waiting lists will be taken for events that reach registration capacity. Waiting lists will be accessible through the registration portal at NSGA.com/registration. IF a spot becomes available in the event, athletes will be contacted in chronological order and given a brief period to register before the space is offered to the next eligible athlete on the waiting list. Entry is not guaranteed.
Note: Athletes competing in the Deadlift competition must wear something to cover their shins to protect from rubbing against the bar. Compression pants or leggings will suffice, as long as they cover the entire length of your shin. If you are in a singlet or shorts, you must wear deadlift socks (socks that cover your entire shin).
Q: How is “Raw” and “Equipped” classified?
A: Please refer to the table below for the division each type of gear falls under.

Q: What type of equipment will we be using?
A: If available, the equipment being used for competition will be as follows. If NSGA is not able to source this equipment, we reserve the right to deviate from this, and the information will be properly communicated with athletes ahead of competition.
Q: Will there be equipment checks?
A: On the morning of your assigned competition day, competition judges will check all equipment during the weigh-in process, which takes place prior to the start of the first flight.
Q: Am I required to wear a singlet?
A: Wearing a singlet is not required but encouraged. If you do not wear a singlet, please wear form fitting clothing so the judges can accurately see you are meeting the standards of lifting.
Q: Can I compete in a t-shirt and shorts?
A: Athletes will be allowed to wear t-shirts and shorts, but we request that it’s form-fitting so that the judges can uphold the standards outlined in the rulebook.
Q: Can I lift barefoot?
A: No, shoes are required to compete.
Q: Are deadlift slippers allowed?
A: Deadlift slippers are allowed.
Q: Will I be allowed to wear a bench press shirt or bench daddy band?
A: Athletes are only allowed to wear a bench shirt if you are entered in the equipped division, but you are not allowed to wear a band/slingshot.
Q: Are any neck pads/padding on the bar allowed in the squat competition?
A: No, supportive neck pads or devices are not allowed during the squat competition.
Q: Will a safety bar be allowed as an accommodation for the squat competition?
A: A safety bar will NOT be permitted. All athletes will use a standard 45-pound power bar for the squat competition.
Q: Will a trap bar be used for the deadlift competition?
A: The use of a trap bar will not be permitted in the deadlift competition.
Q: Will a monolift be used for the squat competition?
A: No, monolifts will not be used.
Q: Will we be required to provide our own spotters?
A: No, spotters and weight-loaders will be provided.
Q: Is sumo deadlift an acceptable way to deadlift?
A: A sumo deadlift is acceptable.
Q: Will there be any leniency in the depth of a squat?
A: USA Powerlifting rules mandate a squat that breaks parallel (hip joint is lower than the top surface of the knees), but because this is not a sanctioned event, athletes will only be required to hit parallel. Powerlifters must at least achieve a 90-degree angle in order for the squat to be considered successful.
Q: Will we be competing in pounds or kilograms?
A: Pounds.
Q: Are smelling salts / ammonia permitted?
A: The use of smelling salts and/or ammonia is permitted, but must not be used on the platform or in front of the crowd.
Q: When will I need to provide my rack heights for squat and bench press? What if I do not know my rack heights?
A: Rack heights will need to be provided in the morning of your assigned competition day. There will be an opportunity during weigh-ins to determine your rack heights on the equipment that will be used for competition.
Q: When do I need to provide my opening weights?
A: Opening weight attempts will need to be given during weigh-ins on the morning of your assigned competition day.
Q: Will equipment be available for athletes to warm-up on?
A: Athletes competing in the first flight of the day will be able to warm up before or immediately after the mandatory rules meeting that will take place each morning of competition. Athletes competing in later flights will only be allowed to warm up after their preceding flight finishes their competition.
Q: I will be in town a few days before the competition. Will there be equipment available for me to practice on to stay in shape leading up to the event?
A: There will not be any equipment available for practice or warm-ups prior to the first day of competition. Athletes wanting to workout prior to the event starting will need to source their own equipment at a nearby local gym or their hotel.
Q: Do I need to be a member of USA Powerlifting or Powerlifting America to participate in the Senior Games?
A: Athletes do not need to be a member of any powerlifting federation in order to participate in the National Senior Games.
Q: Does my equipment need to be IPF approved?
A: No
Q: Will there be drug testing?
A: Because this is not a sanctioned event, there will not be any drug testing.
Q: Is this a World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) event?
A: No
Q: When will the schedule be announced? What day and time will I be competing?
A: A detailed schedule, including flights and start times, will be posted on our website after registration has closed and once all participant details are finalized. Athletes can plan on the final schedule to be published at least two weeks prior to the start of the event.
Q: I have gained/lost weight and won’t be able to compete at the weight class that I registered under. Will I be able to change weight-class before the event?
A: Yes. Because this is an open and unsanctioned event, athletes are not required to have a qualifying total. Therefore, they are able to change the weight class from what they registered under. Athletes will compete in whatever weight class they weighed in the morning of their assigned competition day.
Q: When will weigh-ins take place?
A: Weigh-ins will be held first thing in the morning of your assigned competition day.
Q: Am I able to complete my lifts earlier or later than the competition dates if I have a scheduling conflict with another sport?
A: Individual scheduling conflicts will NOT be accomodated.
Q: What will the flow of competition look like?
A: Everyone who is competing in the squat competition will perform that lift 3 times within the flight they are assigned to. Once that lift is complete, everyone will move on together to the bench press competition. Once that lift is complete, everyone will move on to the final competition together, the Deadlift. Athletes will compete in order of weight class - lowest (first) to highest (last).
Example:
All lifters in flight A complete their 3 squat attempts, followed by all lifters in flight B, and flight C, etc. Once all flights have completed the squat competition, flight A will then move on to their 3 bench press attempts, followed by flight B and flight C, etc. Finally, once all lifters have completed the bench press competition, flight A will then move on to their 3 deadlift attempts, followed by flight B and flight C.

Q: Is Power Walk an Open Sport for the National Senior Games?
A: Power Walk is classified as an Open Sport for the National Senior Games. Qualification is not required for Power Walk and athletes will be able to enter the sport when registration begins.
Q: What kind of road surface will be used for the 1-Mile and 5K Power Walk races?
A: The circuit for 5K shall be a maximum of 1250M but not shorter than 1000M road course. The 1-Mile Power Walk will be on either a standard track or a 1-Mile road course.
Q: Can athletes use timing watches or hand held stop watches?
A: Watches are fine. An athlete’s watch will not supersede the official time.
Q: Will shuffleboard be played inside or outside?
A: Once venues are confirmed the information will be available on the specific sport webpage at NSGA.com/Sports
Q: Do athletes have to bring their own shuffleboard cues or will NSGA provide them?
A: There will be cues available for athletes that do not bring their own.

Q: Can a player miss day one of the tournament and still play on day two?
A: A player can miss day one and still play on day two. The player will need to check-in at the Athlete Village and receive a credential before playing.
Q: What brand of balls will be used?
A: Once the brand/type of ball is determined the information will be available on the specific sport webpage at NSGA.com/Sports
Q: What bats are permitted?

A: After the official registration deadline a roster addition can be made for valid medical reasons only. Determining a valid roster change is at the discretion of the NSGA. The team member being added must have qualified for the sport to be eligible for addition to the roster.

How can I find a swimming relay team to compete with at the National Senior Games?
A: Many athletes are successful in finding a relay team and/or team members through the Team/Partner Finder accessible at NSGA.com/NationalGames. You can post your request and/or view other entries. Athletes are responsible for contacting each other and verifying eligibility for the sport/event. Posting on the Team/Partner Finder provides a way for athletes to contact each other and does not register an athlete for a sport/event.
Q: How and when can I register for the Swimming Relays?
A: For relay teams, deck entries will be accepted at the meet. Relay entry cards will be available at the venue starting the first day of competition. Captains of relays may also pre-register a relay team during online registration.

Q: What will the temperature of the pool be?
A: Pool temperature is typically maintained at approximately 77-82 degrees but may vary. Swimmers may want to check the swimming pool website once the venue is determined.

Q: What are the rules for shoes? Are spikes allowed and how long can they be?
A: Shoes must comply with USATF Rule 143, 3(a) – (f). Spike length for shoes cannot exceed ¼ of an inch. The National Senior Games Track & Field competitions are conducted in accordance with the USA Track & Field (USATF) rules. Contact information for USATF can be found in the Track & Field section of the NSGA Rulebook at NSGA.com/Rules-Regulations.
Q: Are poles provided at the National Senior Games Pole Vault competition?
A: Pole vault poles are NOT provided at the Track & Field competition. Athletes may choose to ship personal implements at their own expense. As the National Senior Games approach a shipping address for the track & field venue will be provided on the NSGA website, www.nsga.com, under the SPORTS tab select Track & Field.
Q: Are rubber discus allowed at the National Senior Games Track & Field Meet?
A: Rubber discus are not allowed and must comply with USATF 187.2(a).
Q: Can an indoor shotput be used at the National Senior Games outdoor Track & Field Meet?
A: An indoor shot cannot be used for an outdoor meet.
Q: Is it permissible to use any stickum for helping a grip?
A: Stickum or chalk is allowed on the hands or cheek only and must be removable from the implement with a wet cloth. Neither may be applied directly to a throwing implement.
