Parents are asked to initially contact their child's tutor for any concerns, except for administrative concerns which will be directed via email ONLY to admin@aqa.ksmnet.org

As a first point of call, staff are requested to discuss matters with their respective liaison from the AQA Core Team who will be able to assist in most matters

  1. Class Structure

All classes are online.  Parents should be aware of this, and understand that their child should be able to participate in an online lesson.  Parents may need to sit in on the class to help their child with technical support if they require it, but parents should not intervene or assist their child in the Qur’anic learning/teaching.

Classes have a maximum size of 8, with an average size of 5.  Classes are initially based on Quranic ability (assessed during intake and periodically during academy-wide or individual examination), and then where possible the AQA aims to keep similar ages together, this is not always possible and the AQA reiterates that Quranic progress should remain the top priority for students placements.

Class duration is dependent on the ability and general age of the class.  For example, some classes will be 30 minutes but will have smaller class sizes, and other classes will last 1 hour with more students.  The Core Team has fairly structured class sizes and class durations to ensure students can maximise learning according to their age/ability.  Students participating in a 30 minute class will proportionately have the same amount of teaching as those in a 1 hour class.

  1. Admissions Criteria

Admission or readmission to AQA is based purely on availability of space and the outcome of an entry assessment.  The youngest age to attend AQA is 5 years.  Although there is no current upper age limit, students must be under the age of 18 when they join the AQA.

Applicants will take a formal entry assessment that will be conducted online.  The students will then be sent details of their entry assessment, and, if successful (based on result and availability of space), details of how to pay fees.  Once fees have been paid, parents will be added to the online WhatsApp group where tutors will share class information.

It may be possible that a student will have passed the entry assessment however there may not be a space for their ability level at that point in time.  In this case, parents will be offered priority as soon as a place becomes available, although preferably the AQA keep new intakes to the beginning of a term.

All classes are online.  Parents should be aware of this, and understand that their child should be able to participate in an online lesson.  Parents may need to sit in on the class to help their child with technical support if they require it, but parents should not intervene or assist their child in the Qur’anic learning/teaching.

All successful applicants must pay a £5 registration in addition to the upcoming terms fees in advance.  Students will not be provided with an allocation if fees have not been paid.

There is no trial period, if for any reason you wish your child to be deregistered, please note that fees will not be refunded, even in the case of your child not settling into online teaching.

  1. Attendance (Online)

Students attendance, punctuality, performance and active effort all contribute to their eligibility to remain a student.

Parents may be spoken to regarding any of the above if they present a concern.  If the AQA does not see any improvement on the area(s) of concern parents may be informed of their child's deregistration from the AQA.

Any classes missed by students cannot be replaced or refunded.

Teachers reserve the right not to admit a student to the online class if they have arrived unreasonably late.  This is at the teachers discretion.

Teachers are expected to keep up to date with students progress, if they have concerns they are expected to bring this to the attention of the AQA Core Team who will advise and intervene if necessary.  This can include Core Team assessing the student and making a decision on whether the student should continue to be a student of the academy.

Some classes may be rescheduled by the teacher, with the expectation that all parents are made aware in advance and all are in agreement of the replacement lesson arrangement or a refund will be provided for the missed lesson.  There may be unexpected circumstances where a teacher needs to cancel their lesson at the last moment and we ask parents to be respectful of the Teacher’s personal circumstances.

  1. Fees

AQA Fees are subject to the Fees Policy.  This can be found here.

Fees are paid termly, in advance of the term and equate to £5 per student, per class.  We can only accept online payments via A-QALMS.  Students cannot access the new terms classes if fees are unpaid.

If any lesson is missed by the teacher it will either be replaced or refunded accordingly.

Unpaid fees or consistently late paid fees could result in deregistration of the student from the AQA.  If any parent wishes to confidentially discuss their financial circumstances regarding fees payment they can contact the AQA Lead or Finance Lead at any time.

Withdrawing from AQA:

If, for whatever reason you would like to withdraw your child from attending the AQA, kindly send an email to the admin team.  Students must give a half terms notice as per the Year Planner dates indicated with the yellow icon.  Fees are paid for in advance of each term and are not refundable regardless if the student leaves during the term.  For example: if a student wishes to leave at the start of Term 3, notice should have been provided at the end of the first half term of Term 2.

  1. Safeguarding

All AQA teachers are DBS certified.  Classes are held online and are not recorded.  We do record assemblies, competitions, student training, staff training and staff meetings. If you would like your child to be opted out of this, please select the correct option on the admissions form.

  1. Recruitment

Al-Abbas Quran Academy believes in safe and high quality recruitment. Teachers will be interviewed to ensure suitability, which will include a formal assessment. All teachers will also undertake continuous and periodic training for Qur’an teaching.

  1. Guidelines for Parents

All classes are online.  Parents should be aware of this, and understand that their child must be able to participate in an online lesson.  Parents may need to sit in on the class to help their child with technical support if they require it, but parents should not intervene or assist their child in the Qur’anic learning/teaching during class.  This includes ensuring they do not contradict syllabus or content that the teacher has taught in class whilst working with their child outside of class time.

If you have any concerns about your child’s progress, please get in touch with your child’s teacher.  If you feel that the concern has not been resolved, please contact one of the AQA core team members.

Withdrawing from AQA:

See here.

Kindly ensure that your child is practising their Qur’an homework daily, as per the teacher’s instruction to maximise continuous progress.

Please ensure your child is following the correct Qari (from the Qur’an app) as set by the teacher to ensure correct and consistent articulation of the letters and tajweed rules.

If a teacher feels a child is not making progress due to lack of practice, in the first instance the teacher will communicate this with the parent. If the teacher continues to feel that the advice is not being heeded, the teacher will then notify one of the Core Team members.

AQA has the right to deregister a student if they feel progress is not made due to lack of practice, any fees paid will not be refunded.

Attendance to online classes is mandatory.  Parents should notify teachers of any late arrival/absence of their child, in advance of the class.  There should be a reasonable amount of notice given out of respect for the teacher and fellow classmates so that classes are not impacted by delays of waiting for missing students.  Teachers will flag up consistent absences and lateness, and also will notify the Core Team of any parents who do not provide sufficient notice of absences of their child.  The Core Team can decide to deregister a child if lateness/absence is an issue.
