Welcome Back

Welcome back to the 2019/2020 School Year!  I hope you all had a restful and fun summer filled with great times and memories.  I was lucky enough to have some wonderful things happen this summer.  I went on a two week trip with my parents (in their 80ies) and two siblings to Quebec, Nova Scotia, Maine and Massachusetts.  My oldest daughter and her husband had their first baby and our third daughter left for medical school.  So many terrific  things happened and I am excited to hear from your children about all of their summer adventures when they return in a few weeks.  Teachers have already started to work in their classrooms to get ready for the year and our PTO is getting together soon to plan out the amazing events they have in mind. I want to thank our custodial staff for all of their hard work this summer.  They are the BEST!  Trail Wind looks great inside and out.  Next summer the school is scheduled for new carpet and paint thanks to you, our patrons, and your support of the 2017 Bond.  I look forward to the start of this school year, it is always exciting to have everyone back from break.    I wish you all the best for an incredible year!

Staff Changes

We have some new staff to welcome to Trail Wind.  Donna Ursenbach will be joining us from Adams Elementary as a part time resource room teacher.   We also added a new staff member and position to Trail Wind.  Gary Koopman will be joining our team as a Behavior Support Specialist.  He will be working with all students  on the playground and throughout the building on positive behavior.  Molly Nance will be our school psychologist, Amanda Tanner Special Ed Assistant and Elizabeth Gustavel has joined us as a 6th grade teacher.  We are very excited to work with all of our new staff.  Leaving Trail Wind was Mrs. Lovelace Assistant Principal, she will be at White Pine and Whittier Elementary Schools.  We also will miss Mrs. Gariglio as she has taken the year off to stay home with her daughter and new baby boy.  Congratulations to her and her husband on the birth of their son in July.   Finally, we just had a last minute transfer.  After 21 years of working at Trail Wind Mrs. Bushee decided it was time to make a change.  She had been entertaining doing something different for several years and the right opportunity came along.  She will be greatly missed!  We are in the process of hiring her replacement.

Each year Boise Police take nearly 400 reports on stolen bikes.  Since many don’t ever file a police report, the number is much larger.  To help combat the problem Boise Police has partnered with Bike Index, the most widely used and successful bike registration service in the world.  By registering your bike, you are able to safely store the critical data needed for a police report.  Plus if your bike is ever lost or stolen, law enforcement and the community has a better way to get it back to you.  To register your bike for free, use the link below.

Upon submission you will receive an email asking you to confirm your bike in the Bike Index system.  Click the confirm button in the email and create an account to add additional information, pictures, or bikes.

Loose Parts

This fall Trail Wind will be offering our students an opportunity during recess to play with Loose Parts.  Loose parts is open-ended play that encourages problem solving and creativity.   In order to pull this together we are looking for donations of large cardboard boxes, pool noodles, styrofoam, duct tape or anything you might be throwing away that would be fun for kids to use in a creative way.  Please e-mail Mrs. Boyd before sending your items to school.  We need to be able to manage these items in an organized way.

Meet Your Teacher

Classroom lists will be posted on Thursday, August 15th at 4:00 PM.  Infinite Campus can also be checked on that day if you prefer to find out electronically.  Exterior classroom doors will be open from 8:00 AM to 8:40 AM on Monday the 19th.  Students may come to school a little early that day to meet their teacher and put away school supplies before finding their friends out on the playground before school starts.  All teachers will have their classroom door or window next to their door clearly marked  with their name so you can easily identify where the classroom is located.  Other Trail Wind Staff will be outside assisting students and parents as well.  We are a huge campus so please ask if you don’t know exactly where your teacher’s classroom is located.

Idaho Towing and Recovery Expo

September 21 from 11 to 6PM at Idaho Expo the Idaho Towing and Recovery Expo will be offering free admission to their event.  Come and see a tow truck skills competition, heavy lifting challenge and car crushing demo.  Activities for youth to use certain equipment under the guidance of tow truck operators.

Free admission and a free toy tow truck for children.
