1. What are the BTech programmes offered at IIT Gandhinagar?

IIT Gandhinagar offers 4 year BTech programmes in Artificial Intelligence, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Integrated Circuit Design & Technology, Materials Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

2. If I am admitted to BTech in Mechanical Engineering at IIT Gandhinagar, can I change my branch to BTech in Computer Science later?

Yes. Students admitted to the BTech programme can opt for change of branch from one branch to another after the end of the first year. The branch change is offered using the branch change rule. You can see more details here.

4. Can I change my programme from BTech-MTech to BTech after joining IIT Gandhinagar? For example, can I join IITGN in its BTech-MTech programme in Computer Science and Engineering and graduate with a BTech in Computer Science and Engineering in 4 years?

Yes. IITGN follows a flexible programme change policy. Students admitted to BTech-MTech at IIT Gandhinagar can change their programme to BTech in two ways:

1. At the end of the first year, students can opt for branch change and change their programme to any other branch (including BTech CSE) using the branch change rule.
2. After the branch change, students remaining in the BTech-MTech programme can change their programme to BTech in the same discipline using the programme change option. This will also be at the end of first year. Almost 50% of the students who are in the BTech-MTech programme in a discipline could change their programme to BTech in the same discipline.

Students remaining in the BTech-MTech programme after 1st year can exit with only a BTech-MTech degree. You can see more details here.

7. In case I join BTech in Chemical Engineering, can I graduate with a BTech in Chemical Engineering and an MTech in Computer Science & Engineering?

Yes. Students in the BTech programme can apply for change of programme to BTech-MTech, with MTech in any discipline in which an MTech programme exists at IIT Gandhinagar. Currently, MTech is offered in Artificial Intelligence, Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Earth System Science, Electrical Engineering, Integrated Circuit Design & Technology, Materials Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

8. I am planning to join BTech in Materials Engineering at IIT Gandhinagar. Can I graduate with a BTech in Materials Engineering and a BTech in Artificial Intelligence?

Yes. Students in the BTech programme can apply for change of programme to Dual Major BTech. These applications are sought during the second year of their BTech programme at IITGN. You can see more details here.

9. How many students usually receive a branch change and what is the minimum CPI requirement for branch change?

In 2022, around 50% of the students who applied for a branch change received a branch change. The minimum CPI for consideration for branch change is 6.50 at the end of the first year of BTech/BTech-MTech.

10. What is the date of joining for BTech/BTech-MTech students admitted in 2024-25?

The date of joining is 21 July 2024. You can see more details here. The venue for registration on the 21st of July will be Jasubhai Memorial Auditorium. In case a candidate fails to report for registration by 6:00 PM IST on 21 July 2024, it will be presumed that he/she is not interested in admission to IIT Gandhinagar and the offer of admission to the BTech/BTech-MTech programme will stand cancelled.

11. Does BTech (Electrical Engineering) at IITGN cover Electronics & Communication Courses?

Yes. There are several core courses in the areas of Electronics & Communication in the new curriculum. You can see more details of the curriculum here.

Currently, the research areas of faculty in Electrical Engineering are broadly divided into 3 broad streams, 1) Power Systems and Control, 2) Signal Processing and Machine Learning, 3) Microelectronics and Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI).

12. BTech in Computer Science and Engineering already has courses in Artificial Intelligence and allied areas. Why should someone do a BTech in Artificial Intelligence in that case?

Unlike artificial intelligence courses covered in a BTech Computer Science and Engineering programme, the BTech in Artificial Intelligence offers specialized courses and in-depth training which enables students to be competent in diverse fields of Artificial Intelligence. Further, the curriculum is structured in such a way that the student would be able to apply the knowledge gained towards solving real world problems arising in other disciplines.

13. Is it mandatory for students to attend Foundation Programme?

Yes. Foundation Programme is a 4 credit course with a Pass/Fail grade, which is a mandatory requirement for graduation.

14. Will I receive an offer letter from IITGN by email?

Yes. Candidates who have been admitted to IITGN have been sent offer letters via email. Please check your email regularly for any updates from IITGN.

15. What are the documents required at the time of joining?

1. Two passport size photos
2. Aadhaar card
3. Proof of date of birth
4. Caste/Category certificate (If applicable)
5. JEE (Advanced) admit card
6. Class 12 mark sheet
7. Class 10 mark sheet
8. Medical certificate (as uploaded in JOSAA Portal)

Annexure I

Fees for the Academic Year 2024-25

NOTE:

1. Mess and Laundry Advance Fee is estimated based on current rates and are subject to change.
2. Refundable security deposit is Rs. 5,000 and one-time admission fees is Rs. 7,750.
3. SC, ST and PwD (with minimum 40% disability) students will be eligible for a waiver of tuition fees (Rs. 1,00,000 per semester).
4. The Institute has extended the full tuition fee waiver/reimbursement facility to UG students having an annual parental income of up to Rs. 2.5 lakhs. Students whose family income is between Rs. 2.5 lakh to Rs. 5.0 lakhs per annum shall pay only 1/3rd of the tuition fee.  
5. The students whose annual family income is less than Rs. 9,00,000/- shall have access to an interest-free bank loan under the Vidyalaxmi scheme for the total portion of the tuition fee payable.
6. Fees amount received by the Institute from JOSAA will be adjusted against this amount and the balance amount will be due by July 18, 2024.
