Team Wishlist

Our team has an Amazon Wishlist 🙂

Stuffed Animals - Unless students have individual permission from a teacher, stuffed animals and baby dolls must be kept at home as these are causing significant distractions within classrooms.  Students with a stuffed animal / baby doll the first time will be asked to leave the item in the Main Office for pick up during dismissal.  If this occurs in the future, the item will need to be picked up by a parent / guardian.  Thank you for helping us keep our classrooms focused on learning!

Blankets - Please note, we do not allow students to walk around with blankets.  Blankets prevent a safety hazard, especially while students are transitioning on steps.  As the weather is getting cooler, if any student needs support with a jacket or coat, please reach out to our school social worker, Mr. Kyte (jkyte@wcpss.net.)  Our school community is happy to help address this need.

Last week finished up our Unit on Matter and the Periodic Table. Students took a test on Friday. A study guide was given and we reviewed in class on Thursday.

This week we reviewed the test and students had the opportunity to retake the test by Friday. We also discussed and investigated the difference between a chemical change and a physical change. We started a project in which students were to create a superhero or villain based on an element. Ask them what element they are researching!

Next week we will be working in the Media Center creating a Stop Motion Video of their element. It will be the end of the quarter. Students will need to get all their make-up work to me by Wednesday. Projects will also be due on Tuesday. We will begin to look at the concepts of chemical change and how to write a chemical equation and what it means.

I have a Week in Review to highlight homework and lessons for the week. You can find the link here.

I have Unit Guides to help students and parents with extra resources.

Good morning Ranger parents!Last week I introduced students to Matter and the Properties of matter in our first Chemistry unit. I also challenged them to remember 40 element symbols. We had a quiz on them today, Sept 26.

This week we continued to look at properties of matter. Students investigated a mystery powder. They had to identify the properties of known substances and then identify the components of the mystery powder based on their observations. We finished up today, Sept 26 but several students did not have the opportunity to finish.

Next week we will focus on the classification of matter as an element, compound or mixture and will have a quiz on friday.

Good morning Ranger parents! Last week we practiced making observations by studying the effect of different types of water on a growing creature collecting data such as mass, volume and length. This also helped us understand the difference between different types of observations.

This week we continued to look at measurements such as density. We worked through and practiced several problems. We also did a simulation to look at the effect that changing mass and volume have on density. Students had the opportunity to complete a make up worksheet to replace the Density Problems if they did poorly. We also looked at graphing and the scientific method to round up the week. Friday we revisited our lab last week to complete the analysis questions.

Next week we will have a test and begin our next unit on chemistry starting with matter and the properties of matter.

I have a Week in Review to highlight homework and lessons for the week. You can find the link here.
