1. Mandates
The Developer DAO has a Builders First approach. We are focusing on the developer community of the Harmony ecosystem. By working on the following topics:
- Support: resolve daily issues on forums & channels, drive weekly meeting agenda
- Bounties: prioritize bugs & features w/ task management & contributor retention
- Advocacy: hold workshops & events, content marketing with talks & blogs
The mandates of the Developer DAO are described here in more detail: Developer DAO: mandates & deliverables
2. Initial Funding Proposal
The Developer DAO was initiated by the Harmony Foundation. Giv setup an initial Kick-Off Proposal. Which was followed by the initial voting. And the following introduction of the elected governors.

With a total of 119 votes.
2.1. First Term Governors
- Michael Otis
- Aaron Krueger
- Kruger Dunn
- Sev
- Bruno Marshall
- ChaoticBeauty
- Edd Norris
- Ivo
- John Whitton
Note: Aaron Kruger and Ivo disappeared after the first month and reduced our workforce drastically. There was no malicious behavior involved, they just went silently.
2.2. Second Term Governors
- Kruger Dunn
- Sev
- Bruno Marshall
- Chaotic Beauty
- Edd Norris
- DevSchwab
- Harjas27
- Bonne
- Annop George
Note: As the voting fell on the time between christmas and new year, participation was low, and only 9 governors applied, so the governors ran unopposed. And were ratified later by a vote.
2.3. Deliverables For First Term
We present the deliverables as we proposed them for the first term. Directly underneath is the current state of the deliverable, so that you don’t need to jump between chapters.
2.3.1. Support
Deliverable: resolve daily issues on forums & channels, drive weekly meeting agenda
Metric for the deliverable:
- Provide support in Hackathons
- We did not receive further requests for hackathons
- Regularly provide support over all channels (Recurring ~24h)
- We achieve this quite regularly, providing support over the channels:
- Harmony Devs
- Developer DAO discord
- DevDAO Discord,
- Harmony Discord
- Developers
- developer-dao-chat
- Reddit: /harmony_dev
- Talk: Developers (Section)
- Twitter: Developer DAO
2.3.2. Assist (Bounties, Grant submissions, …)
Deliverable: prioritize bugs & features w/ task management & contributor retention
Metric for the deliverable:
- Create bounties on Harmony Gitcoin / github
- Target of 10 bounties (low target due to initial setup)
- The main concern people are having is RPC and the explorer. We had not much time to come up with new bounties and our community is too small to really get a grasp of what is really needed.
- Three bounties were created
- One was funded
- None was completed
- Filing issues, bug reports
https://github.com/harmony-one/chrome-extension-wallet/pull/121
https://github.com/harmony-one/chrome-extension-wallet/pull/122
- Active engagement on Harmony Forum with developer community
- As we said in support, we reach a good level of support to the community
2.3.3. Advocate
Deliverable: hold workshops & events, content marketing with talks & blogs
Metric for the deliverable:
- Weekly meeting notes, recap for developer community
- We have a weekly twitter spaces established on thursdays
- We had multiple speakers from community projects: The Marketplace, Parrot Defi, Kanga Finance
- Viewership is slowly climbing
- We have a weekly meeting of the governors in our discord to discuss what we are working on and what we want to present at the weekly twitter spaces.
- Developer Onboarding into Harmony Ecosystem
- We are trying to get more traction, but it’s hard to do, as developers are head down into their active projects.
- Getting some traction of developers that engage in the Developer DAO: 100 active Devs by the end of the year.
- Now, we have 77 people in our discord.
- It’s not easy to track how many devs joined the community. The reliable metric we have is the growth of our discord.
- Dylan is also running the BridgeBuilderDAO: Participating in events in SF like the crypto café and building a community there. A clear path on how to streamline those efforts into the DevDAO is yet unclear.
- @harmony_dev_dao Twitter account and community growth (Term 1 & Term 2)
- 315 total followers (62 follower increase in past 28 days, checked on Feb 8th)
- Hosting weekly Twitter Spaces with organic growth is listeners and engagement
2.3.4. Reports
In the following there is a brief graphical overview over the activity and the respective fields of the work of the DAO. More detailed reports can be found in our Gitbook.

3. Deliverables Next Term
The deliverables basically stay the same: Support, Assist, Advocate.
3.1. Support
- Regularly provide support over all channels
- Support at hackathons, if any come up
- 3 of our governors will be at ETH Denver and help out there
3.2. Assist (Bounties, Grant submissions, …)
- Bounty submissions & Grant reviewing: There’s so much going on, we asked multiple times where to help and it was always like everywhere. Which is a hard place to start. Maybe we need a bit more clearer communication where to help to which deadline.
- Filing issues, bug reports
- We will continue report issues, educating the community on how to report bugs and create pull requests
- And create issues and pull requests as we see fit
- Active engagement on Harmony Forum with developer community
3.3. Advocate
- Weekly meetings
- Developer Onboarding into Harmony Ecosystem
- We want to engage the community more into the DevDAO discord to really build a DAO. At the moment it still feels like the governors are the DAO (see 3.4.).
- Getting some traction of developers that engage in the Developer DAO
- The next goal is: 150 Discord Members
- Twitter follower and Spaces engagement growth
- Current: Feb 8th: 315 followers
- Goal: Mar 30th: 500 followers
- Creating Tutorials on YouTube/Gitbook to educate and onboard new developers.
- Collaborating with Blockchain projects to utilize synergy to grow the community
- Collaboration with Tatum on 3 workshops is planned.
3.4. Organization
- We are discussing a government token for the DAO and did not yet find a consensus on how to do things. Currently most agree that we want to move to a system like Aragon and tip those tokens to active community members in the discord to distribute them according to participation: Sev forked Rhythm’s Discord Tipbot and extended the functionality so that the tipbot works with any HRC20 token. This is currently being tested.
- Self-Sustainability: The DAO is brain-storming for a while how we want to monetize our services, to become self-sustaining. So far we have these ideas:
- Job board where Projects or individuals pay for listing
- Skill assessments e.g. Developer can earn “Solidity - Rookie Badge” (non-transferable NFT)
- Idea for token as a service
- Payed 1-on-1 sessions with the governors
- Code Reviews / Audits
4. Lessons Learned
- It was quite late in the first term before we went public with the discord server and we just put the telegram group public. So we have to promote these channels more.
- It’s quite hard to reach developers as they are quite head down in their projects. We need to engage them with us and give them a platform to make their project public to other developers.
- As already written above, the ‘daily drill’ is quite time consuming. And to keep up with everything that is happening, is quite ‘overwhelming’. We are quite independent from the foundation, but it would be good, if we still get clear requests, when we can support the core team, e.g. Sam asked us if we can provide support at Aragon, and Sev regularly checked their channel and took part in a ‘Aragon Office Hour’.
5. What’s the focus
The Developer DAO is back and stronger than ever! We are looking forward to onboard and support developers in the upcoming month. We appreciate the trust and the encouragement by the Harmony Foundation.
5.1. Support
Keep up the work of supporting on all channels and engaging members of the community to become members of the DAO and helping their colleagues in the process.
5.2. Building The Community
We want to spread the word of the developer dao by creating educational content to onboard new developers in the harmony ecosystem and by collaborating with other developers on the Harmony blockchain.
5.3. Building The DAO
Focus on creating an Aragon Client (or similar), a token model and a plan to distribute the tokens to legitimate and dedicated community devs to build and strengthen the DAO.
5.4. Becoming Self-Sufficient
Create revenue streams that align with the mandates of the DAO to become independent and self-sustaining.
6. Upcoming Governor Elections
6.1. March 24 - March 31 (3 Month Term)
6.2. June 23 - June 30 (3 Month Term)
Yours sincerely,
THE DEVELOPER DAO
