Matthew Isaac Major

April 17, 1995 - May 26, 2018

Matthew Isaac Major, age 23, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 26th, 2018 at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis after being diagnosed with brain cancer in November of 2017.

He was born on April 17th, 1995 in Chesapeake, Virginia to Mark and Karen (Miller) Major. The family moved to Indiana after his father retired from the Navy to be closer to their families. After growing up and attending school in the Greene County area most of his life, he grew up to work at Indiana Limestone as a Stone Sawyer. Matthew was a proud father, he enjoyed every moment he spent with his son, Bladen. On a warm day you could always find Matthew outside either riding four wheelers or fishing. He also had quite a green thumb, with a knack for gardening and planting flowers. In his last months, Matthew never met a stranger, he talked to everyone he met. He was fearless, strong, caring, loving and will never be forgotten. He’s left a lasting impression on us all.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Francis Major and Don Miller. He is survived by his grandparents, Jack Major, Alice Black (Miller), and his claimed grandpa Dave Sizemore; parents, Mark and Karen Major; sisters, Kaycie Neeley, Kortney Neeley, Matilda (Tilly) Major; brother, Chris Major; child, Bladen Major and the daughter he called his own, Madison (Maddie) Myers; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

For family and close friends, the burial will be on Wednesday, May 30th, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. at Hopkins Cemetery in Bedford, Indiana. A celebration of life will be held at the Lyons Community Church in Lyons, Indiana at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 2nd.

In lieu of flowers, we ask you to make a donation at any level to support his 9 month old son Bladen. This will assist him in providing his son with one of the things in life that Matthew wasn’t able to achieve — a high school and college education.
