About RW Response

What is ReliefWeb Response?
ReliefWeb Response (RW Response) is a specialised digital service of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). This service is part of OCHA's commitment to the humanitarian community to ensure that relevant information in a humanitarian emergency is available to facilitate situational understanding and decision-making. It is the next generation of the Humanitarian Response platform.

How does ReliefWeb Response work?
RW Response aggregates content from multiple platforms to provide an authoritative source for information in new and existing humanitarian operations and can be tailored by country or emergency.

How is the information organized on RW Response?

Similar to the Humanitarian Response.info platform, country and regional responses are at the core of ReliefWeb Response.  The site enables humanitarians to organize, display and share critical information to improve the response.

See About Us section of the RW Response site for more information.

What managers can do?

Adding New Content

RW Response is a content aggregation platform - the majority of content “lives” on other platforms and is displayed on RW Response via feeds.

Reports, Maps and Infographics

The easiest way to submit content (reports, assessments, meeting minutes, contact lists, maps & infographics) is to send it via email to submit@reliefweb.int

Content will then appear on the feed on your site. You can also feature content by adding it directly to an operation and/or cluster page.

Data

Data is managed by the Humanitarian Data Exchange.  Have data to share?  See steps here:  https://data.humdata.org/faq#body-faq-Sharing_and_Using_Data

Calendar/Events

The default events calendar we use is from TeamUp.  The TeamUp calendar offers a range of features including Ical feeds and the ability to print a pdf version.  The calendar is integrated under the “Events” tab.

New events can be added to a calendar via a “modifier” link.  When a new calendar is created, the modifier link is shared with the operation manager.   Need a modifier link to the calendar?  Let us know at info@humanitarianresponse.info.

Want to find out more about TeamUp calendars?  See the help information here:
https://www.teamup.com/help/

Using another calendar like Google calendars?  You can easily integrate or link to other calendars using the ICal feed.

Go to “Edit” then select the “Events” tab.  Enter in the Ical address and link to the calendar.

For more information on sharing Google calendars see the help here:  https://support.google.com/calendar#topic=10509740

How to Edit an Operation

RW Response provides operation spaces where managers can organize and feature content to help coordinate a humanitarian response.  As a manager - you can add and remove members, create new clusters and working groups, add and edit pages.

You can also customize feeds for reports, maps, infographics, data and events.

How to Edit a Cluster/Working Group

Clusters and working groups have the same features as an operation.  There are dedicated feeds for reports, maps/infographics, data, assessments, events and contacts that can be customized to fit the needs of the specific group.

Want to find out more?  See the video here:  https://go.reliefweb.int/3dKBsuF

Adding/Editing Managers

Managers can be added at the operation level and at the cluster or working group level.  Operation managers can add and remove managers at any level of the site.  Managers of clusters and working groups can only add or remove managers for their specific cluster or working group.

After you log in, navigate to your site and add new managers by going to the "Members" tab in your edit bar. Adding a member at the operation level allows them to edit the entire operation including clusters and working groups within that operation.

Featuring/Highlighting Content

There are many ways to feature documents, dashboards and other content  in RW Response.  When you edit a page, you can select from a list of components to add to a page.

Here is a explanation of some of the options and when you might use them:

Card List

Use this option when you want to feature content (ie: dashboards, documents, external sites) side-by-side

Featured Highlight

Use this option when you have a single dashboard, document or website that you want to feature

HDX Feeds

Use this option to feature dataset from HDX

Menus

You can add a custom navigation menu to the sidebar of the site.  These menus can be inherited by clusters or working groups.  Clusters and working groups can also create custom menus.

Want to find out more?  See the video here: https://go.reliefweb.int/3PzPDja

Dashboards and other content with Iframes

Iframes can be used to embed dashboards and other visual content such as Humanitarian Financing graphics.

RSS Feeds

You can add blocks of RSS feeds to any page.  The content of the feed will update automatically.

ReliefWeb Documents and ReliefWeb Feeds

Adding a single document or a feed from ReliefWeb is easy - all you need is the link.  This allows you to feature single documents or a list of documents (such as meeting minutes).

ReliefWeb Document:  Use this option when you have a specific document on ReliefWeb that you want to feature.

Want to find out more?  See the video here: https://go.reliefweb.int/3wDvNx5

ReliefWeb Feed: Use this option to feature multiple documents from ReliefWeb. You can also use it to keep featuring the latest document from a product series.

Custom Block

With a custom block, you can feature text, images and links.  For example, you can use a custom block to highlight social media channels or Mailchimp subscriptions.

Troubleshooting

Adding New Managers

I want to add a manager but can’t find their name/email address.

All managers of RW Response will need to have a Humanitarian ID account.  Once they have an account, they will need to use their Humanitarian ID credentials to log into RW Response.

Once they have logged in, they can be added to a RW Response operation or cluster by an existing manager.
