Portland Public Schools requires 24 credits to graduate. A full schedule of eight classes provides you with the opportunity to take maximum advantage of the educational opportunities available to you. You will take EIGHT courses your 9th grade year. You have FIVE Core classes and THREE electives. Remember, we suggest you keep taking a World Language if you took a world language in middle school and earned high school credit. You will take PE in 9th & Health in 10th grade. Make sure you include EIGHT Electives, 1-3 are your top choice and 4-8 are your alternate electives. If you don’t include alternates, you may be placed in classes you do not want or in a study hall. | |

Graduation Requirements
All students who graduate from Portland Public Schools must complete a minimum number of credits. One high school credit is equal to two semesters (or one year) of instruction. Below are the minimum credits needed in each discipline to graduate from high school.
