Louisville Grows’ mission is to create a more just and sustainable community through urban agriculture, urban forestry, and environmental education

   

OVERVIEW

The Louisville Grows 2018 Community Garden Grant provides up to $1,000 in-kind or materials for new or expanding gardens managed by community organizations, garden clubs, neighborhood associations, faith-based organizations, and motivated community members in Louisville, KY. Schools and for-profit entities are not eligible.  If a grant is awarded, groups are required to provide 10% in matching funds.  Applications are due by Monday, March 19, 2018.

Groups may apply for funding of garden construction, soil preparation, seeds and plant starts, tools, rain barrels or other irrigation methods, fencing, and/or compost. In addition to providing funding, all gardens that receive funding will be designated as an official recipient of the Louisville Grows 2018 Community Garden Grant, which provides the benefits of garden signage, year round technical and educational support, groups of volunteers as requested, social media promotion, and networking opportunities to ensure the community garden’s long term success.

If awarded funding, community gardens are required to submit a two-page written report by November 15, 2018. This report should include photos and total weight of produce grown throughout the year.  

ELIGIBILITY

You are eligible for the Louisville Grows 2018 Community Garden Grant if you:

  1. Are a group of 10+ community members that are in the process of starting, or have already started, a community garden in Louisville, KY;
  2. Have not received the Louisville Grows Community Garden Grant in the past three years; and
  3. Can provide 10% in matching funds if awarded the grant.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Please submit the application and following required attachments by email to Simon Cozzens at agassistant@louisvillegrows.org or mail to Louisville Grows, ATTN: Simon Cozzens, 1641 Portland Avenue, Louisville, KY 40212. All Information must be received or postmarked by Monday, March 19, 2018. Late applications will not be considered.

  1. Community Garden Application
  2. A representative of the community garden must attend one of the 2018 Community Garden Grant Information Session on either Saturday, February 24, 2018, 2:00 - 3:00pm or Saturday, March 3, 2018, 10:00 - 11:00am at the Healthy House, 1641 Portland Ave.
  3. Brief description of the organizational structure of the garden in terms of leadership roles, community partners, etc. or, if creating a new garden, please complete the LG Community Garden Toolkit
  4. Community Garden Roster
  5. Community Garden Budget
  6. Copy of current lease or land-use agreement (if assistance is needed for land acquisition, please designate this in your application)
  7. Tentative schedule of planned garden activities or events

OPTIONAL ATTACHMENTS

  1. Photographs of potential/current garden location
  2. Sketch of garden map
  3. Letter of support from community leader
