Incredibly dangerous off-ball runner. High end outlet for balls over the top from deep and through balls between opposition full back and center back. Combines incredible burst with good understanding of timing and variety of movements — check in/burst away runs, out-to-in runs off of defenders shoulder, between center backs from central
Poses major threat on the dribble. Can fly over ground when carrying in space. Frequently draws two-three defenders when receiving wide against established blocks. At his most dangerous when looking to create shots for himself, which lends itself most to driving in from the left, utilizing drops of the shoulder
Final ball could use some refinement. Not someone who will unlock and split defenses from deep, but when he does turn the corner into the box or create separation wide, the resulting pass is frequently just off. Needs to get better at identifying cutbacks and, if no options are on initially, trusting himself to keep driving towards the end line. Just a bit higher capitalization on all the chaos he creates would bring major gains
Has a lack of trust in his left foot that limits him in certain situations. Will sometimes force the ball back into traffic to his right instead of driving into space to his left, sometimes tries to play square balls awkwardly with right foot
Can offer solid minutes as a nine in the right context (likely against a high defensive line or in a transition-heavy match) with his ability to stretch opponents and get in behind. But back to goal game and ability to operate in tight central positions are limited, and it would restrict his ability to create off the dribble
Marcus Epps (LW/RW)
Is able to receive with a variety of unorthodox first touches. Makes it hard for defenders to anticipate his direction, allows him to separate from initial incoming challenges in tight spaces and then survey. Has control of body and ability on ball to wriggle out of tight situations from a static start. Can be a valuable outlet for line-breaking passes
Shows good understanding of principles and good potential as a presser. Does well recognizing back pass from far side to trigger pressing from out to in from the left. Positions his body purposefully to block passing lanes, not easy to bypass
Picks and chooses when to engage one vs. one off the dribble — not someone who wants to repeatedly go at a man every time. Looks very in control and purposeful when able to get a driving start towards the opposition defense, has a lethal little drop of the shoulder inside to get on to his right foot — a system with more transition opportunities could help him show this off at a much higher rate
Provides positive value with distribution moving inside from left to right. Not an elite playmaker, but can bring good combination play and occasional line-breaking action from deep, and then higher up has the patience and vision to actually take advantage of the angles afforded from driving inside
Could offer a more in terms of box crashing. A lot of shot production comes off the dribble, not much with the ball coming across from the opposite wing. Is very dangerous when he does make darting runs towards six yard box or across face of defender, has the burst and the length to poke balls towards goal — just something that he could look to perform more often. Could open up options to operate from central positions as well
Romario Williams (CF)
Box instincts are quite good. Doesn’t utilize many high-intensity sprints. Likes to sit off of opposition center back(s) — either staying a bit back in cutback receiving zone, drifting into gap between them, or a bit wide at the back post. Looks to receive square ball/cutback to feet first, then attacks towards goal line if he recognizes an opening. Can thrive in a team that consistently gets the ball into wide areas in the box near the end line
Not a carry/dribble threat but good on-ball footwork and composure in box to manufacture shots. Utilizes little drops of the shoulder and shifting ball from foot to another types of moves for that valuable bit of separation
Definitely a low-possession involvement, true poacher type of nine. Primarily stays on the last line and waiting to get in position when a breakthrough is created as opposed to drifting towards ball frequently
Can perform some quick, concise link-up actions — will occasionally drop in near midfield and release a ball out to far-side winger, has a good understanding of checking away/popping up in front of center backs to receive to feet. But struggles when he attempts higher difficulty plays (trying to receive on turn, pick out a forward pass through traffic instead of a simple layoff)
Doesn’t offer much as an outlet. Good size but lacks explosiveness in the air to be a long-ball/flick-on target. Can offer some channel running, but isn’t much of a threat in behind. Impact and production is heavily reliant on team’s base ability to progress into danger zones. Will be there at the end of moves to make them count, but a team will have to be able to get up in transition, work the ball into attack, or get more of that outlet/defense-stretching play from other sources
Deshane Beckford (RW/LW)
Big time threat driving with the ball at his feet. In space, defenders are so scared and give him so much cushion/respect that it essentially turns into a guaranteed box entry — allows him to eat up ground in transition. Has significant on-ball gravity against established blocks, can attract 2–3 defenders out towards him — could open up space for a half-space creator on his side
Provides a real outlet threat with wide off-ball runs in behind. Has incredible burst that very few opponents can match. Can be a valuable route for team to beat pressure or to get out and running in transition
Still room to become more efficient when actually engaging in take-ons, even if production off the dribble is already very strong. Leaves too much space/time between him and his opponent when he makes his move/cut, allowing them to react and recover. If he could trust himself to engage the defender fully before making his move, very few can react with his quickness
Could take major jump in production with some refinement to final action. Able to arrive in high threat zones with great regularity, but needs to show more in terms of penalty area movement/goal scoring instincts. Settles for a lot of very low quality shots off the dribble, but also just doesn’t offer a ton of box crashing or attacking towards six yard box. Even if he takes a role as a width provider, still want to see more at the right times
Mediocre out-of-possession presence. Principles when closing down ball are just off and sometimes switches off or doesn’t track back quickly enough. Some issues seem fixable with the right instruction and discipline — could reach a net neutral defensive level
Enoch Mushagalusa (LW)
Good level of off-ball activity in attacking third and penalty area. Offers valuable movement and instincts. Attacks full back-center back gaps, crashes towards penalty spot, bursts to near post — pops up in areas that will eventually lead to chances for him or others. Also gets out in transition
Certainly potential as a dribble threat, but needs refinement. Moves pretty smoothly and can cover ground, but lacks efficiency and killer instinct in the take-on. Struggles to beat defenders starting from a standstill — often ends up very static, too loose with ball, and attempts feints/changes of direction without any chop or power. Has to get better at drivingright at defender with intent and committing to a move to throw off their balance before attempting to burst. Also a bit weak in shoulder-to-shoulder situations, can be easily muscled off when trying to knock and run down line — again highlights need to create more separation
Lacks ability to process teammate runs and make complex decisions moving with the ball. Struggles to create and make plays cutting in from the left — often missing inside options, overcomplicating and forcing ball into traffic. Could benefit from a role on the right — let him focus on just creating a bit of separation and putting ball into dangerous area across the box as opposed to picking out runners, still let him crash the box and attack in behind off-ball
Solid work rate out of possession. Not the most intense dueler, but closes down in press with speed and is willing to track opposition full backs to defensive third
Kyle Edwards (CF)
Smart, mobile off-ball runner in transition situations and against high lines. Able to identify where the gaps left by the opposition defense are from deep and then attack that space. Really good at curling runs into channels to separate from center backs, tracking down through balls
Decent aerial target. Not quite an explosive jumper or strong enough to jostle and win duels from “post-up” situations, but effective when he is able to drift a bit and challenge for long balls in space. Can provide some valuable flick-ons. Solid presence on defensive set pieces as well
A bit shaky receiving under pressure with back to goal. Is not comfortable taking ball in and shielding through contact. Tries to create separation with first touch but ball frequently gets away from him. Limits ability to link play and hold ball up in more crowded scenarios
Pretty smooth and quick driving with the ball in space. Not a real one vs. one threat but able to carry in transition and create occasional shot for himself after picking ball up in wide position
