Reporting and References for Pupils Policy - Master copy

Reporting Policy

This policy is applicable to all pupils in the School
including those in an EYFS setting.

Reports

Cheadle Hulme School regards reports as an integral part of the educational process. They are intended to provide an objective measure of a pupil’s learning habits, progress and attainment and form part of the communication between teachers, parents/carers and pupils.

Grades for attainment are backward-looking, based upon the pupil’s recent performance. Comments in reports and those made at Parents’ Evenings are principally forward-looking, drawing on past performance insofar as this helps to indicate areas for consolidation and improvement.

The School will:

use school-wide guidelines for each stage of learning to determine the grade to be awarded for attainment;

use the Learning Habits Matrix in the Senior School, applying the ‘best fit’ model;

report to parents/carers on a regular basis timed to maximise the efficacy of the communication, using both interim grades and written reports;

schedule Parents’ Evenings to enable parents, pupils and teachers to discuss progress;

provide staff with Report Writing Guidelines in order to ensure the highest quality of report, and consistency across Departments.

For pupils who reside with carers/guardians and whose families live overseas, copies of reports are disseminated to both parents and guardians.

The reporting system will be regularly reviewed to ensure it meets the needs of the pupils.

References

To facilitate progress to other educational institutions and to support employment applications the School will provide references:

for current and former pupils when it is appropriate to do;

if sufficient notice and information about the purpose of the reference is provided;

which are appropriate to the nature of the reference requested;

which are authored by the member of staff deemed most appropriate by the School;

which are “open references”, i.e. they may be read by the subject of the reference and evidence must be available for any judgments contained within the reference

All references will be processed, stored and disposed of in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018, the School’s
Data Protection Policy and  Data Sharing Procedures.
