Sir,

                I beg to submit this my application to be considered as a candidate for the Vice-Chancellorship of the University of Hong Kong.

                In support of my application, I append the following particulars:-

Name:                        RIDE, Lindsay Tasman.

Age:                        Born 10th October, 1898.

Status:                        Married.  2 sons, 2 daughters.

Academic Record:        Secondary education at Scotch College, Melbourne (Victorian Government Scholarship);  University education at Ormond College, Melbourne University (Victorian Government Scholarship) and at New College, Oxford (Rhodes Scholar);  Clinical Training at Guy’s Hospital, London (Senior Science Scholarship).

        Experience:        Demonstrator in Physiology and Pharmacology, Guy’s Hospital 1927-28.

Professor of Physiology including Pharmacology, The University, Hong Kong 1928-   , for over 9 years of which period I have been Dean of the Medical Faculty.

Association with        Melbourne University – Chairman of the Students’ Representative Council;    

        Student                Athletics ½ Blue.

        Activities:        New College – Steward of J.C.R.   Captain of Boats.

                        Guy’s Hospital – Rowing Blue.

Hong Kong – for most of my time in Hong Kong, I have been a Committee Member AND Treasurer of the Students’ Medical society and have taken an active interest in all branches of undergraduate sports.

Scientific Societies:        As a delegate of this University, I have attended and read papers before the following scientific societies:

                        Far Eastern Association of Tropical Medicine, Bangkok, 1929.

                        Pacific Science Congress, Vancouver, 1933.

                        International Anthropological Congress, London, 1934.

During my leave in 1933-34, I was granted permission by this University to carry out a survey in U.S.A., Breat Britain, and Western Europe on “The Relation of Human Genetics to Clinical Medicine” for the Rockefeller Foundation of New York.

Member of the Physiological society of Great Britain and of the Chinese Physiological Society.

Publications:                “Genetics and the Clinician”, Wright & Sons, Bristol.

Over twenty original papers on Comparative Racial Physiology, Blood Chemistry in Cholera, Oedema of Pregnancy, Blood Groups and Blood Sedimentation Rates.

During most of my service in Hong Kong, I have been Editor of “The Caduceus”, the research journal of the Hong Kong University Medical society.

Military Service:        Served as a Private in Australian Infantry in France during the First World War.

                        Officer, Melbourne University Rifles, 1919-21

                        Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps, 1930-41

Commanding Officer, Hong Kong Field Ambulance, 1941.   Commanded this unit during the hostilities in Hong Kong.

1942-45:  formed and commanded an escape, evasion and intelligence organisation in China.
