Course Description: In first grade, students will demonstrate an understanding of English grammar usage when speaking and writing. Students will use grade level appropriate spelling, capitalization, and punctuation when writing.

Each year in their writing, first grade students will demonstrate increasing sophistication in all aspects of language use, from vocabulary and syntax to the development and organization of ideas, and they should address increasingly demanding content and sources. Students will write in multiple genres including personal narrative, persuasive, and informational.
