Dear Tiger Families,

I am writing to keep you up-to-date on what is known about the start of school at this time.  Please keep in mind all information regarding the start of school is very fluid and ever changing.  I will continue to update you as more information becomes available.  Change is very hard; however, I feel through collaboration with the Montgomery County Health Department, we are working together to make the best decisions for our students and staff that we can, and we are working to create a plan for the safest return to school possible.  I want to thank everyone ahead of time for being understanding during this difficult time.

I am very grateful for our Montgomery County Commissioners and the work they are doing to support Montgomery County and our school! The Wellsville-Middletown R-1 School District will be able to add many layers of protection for our staff and students because of their support.  So far, the County Commissioners have approved to purchase the following personal protective equipment for our school: bottle filling stations, individual water bottles, automatic flush valves in all bathrooms, automatic sinks in all bathrooms, plexiglass dividers in all classrooms with tables, handsoap, hand sanitizer, gloves, sanitizer sprayers for buses and playground equipment, and paper products.  In addition, face shields have been purchased for all of our staff members to have available when they are working one-on-one with students or are unable to social distance (within 6 feet for 15 minutes).  Also, face shields or masks will be required for any essential person entering the school who is not an employee.

As we continue to collaborate with the Montgomery County Health Department every aspect of our school day has to be considered.  One of these areas is bus transportation.  The Wellsville-Middletown R-1 School District encourages parents to transport your students.  We have been very fortunate to have had the ability to provide transportation to anyone who has requested it.  However, during this time of navigating uncharted waters bus transportation will experience a change.  After much consideration, the decision has been made not to provide transportation to any students who reside in the city limits of Wellsville for the 2020-2021 school year.  This will allow for increased social distancing measures of students who are eligible to ride the bus.  If your child is an eligible bus rider, information will be available at registration.  The deadline for securing transportation will be August 7th.  This will give us time to develop a schedule for bus transportation and create seating charts for families.

I want to thank you for your continued support of the Wellsville-Middletown R-1 School District.  This is a tough time and many hard decisions are being made with the best interest of our students and staff in mind.  I appreciate your understanding and I will continue to provide information to you as we plan for the start of school on August 25th.
