Tues. 5/1:  6:30 pm Learn Why Not All Organic Farms Are Created Equally:   

Come learn the nuts and bolts of how you can set up an eco-system in your own back yard with local organic farmers, Jim and Beth Welsh.  Learn about their farm story and how you, too, can create an ecosystem right in your own backyard and be able to keep chickens in a highly cost effective and environmentally friendly way.  Also have fun sampling a roasted organic chicken with homemade sauces created by Jim.  Jim is even going to teach everyone how to properly carve a chicken!  This presentation is guaranteed to be a wealth of useful information and flavors for anyone interested in organic food, farming and cooking.  Please call 315-986-5932 to register your attendance.

***LAUNCH YOUR OWN BUSINESS: Wed. 5/2:  7-9 pm  Entrepreneur Workshop #1 The Entrepreneur Workshop series that has helped several local businesses launch successfully, will be offered again each Wednesday evening in May for a reduced fee of $40. Each of the 5 classes will run from 7 pm until 9 pm and feature presentations from local banking, accounting, insurance, legal and marketing professionals.  These workshops are an ongoing partnership between SCORE and Macedon Public Library and they are partially funded from aid given to the library by former NYS Senator, Michael Nozzolio. Thurs. 5/3: 6 pm Crafty Capers  Dramatic Floral Painting  Learn how to paint a gorgeous, floral painting that features stunning flowers done in blue.  Call the library to register.  A materials fee will apply.

Sat. 5/5: 2-4 pm  Maker Day  Drop in and make something at one of the stations set up around the library.

Mon. 5/7: NOON  Macedon Senior Luncheon

Tues. 5/8 : 6:30 pm Make a Card for Mom  Children age 10 and up, as well as teens and adults can design a beautiful, heartfelt card to give mom on Mother’s Day.  Use a special decorative paper technique and assorted card making tools to create a card mom will cherish.  Registration is required.  A materials fee of $ will apply.

Wed. 5/9:  2pm Iris Folding  Join this group and make stunning cards for friends and family.  Bring pretty paper, cardstock, scissors, tape and glue. Current members of the group are always eager to teach beginners. The group meets in the teen corner of the library.

Fri. 5/11: 5-10 pm TEEN LOCK-IN (age 13+) Have fun in the library after-hours with other teens doing teen directed activities such as: playing games, bashing B-movies, making munchies or just talking about stuff.  Must have reliable transportation home at 10 pm.

Sat. 5/12: 2 pm  Dancing & Tea for Mother’s Day  Bring mom to the library to enjoy tea, scones and English Country Dancing.  There will be live fiddling as the Rochester Area English Country Dancers perform a variety of English Country Dances in Regency period costumes.  All audience members will be invited to try doing some dancing, too (although dancing is not required of participants).  English Country Dance is a very lively type of dance that is called in a manner that is similar to modern square dance. This type of dance was extremely popular during the Regency Period, and as such, can be witnessed when watching filmed versions of the novel, Pride and Prejudice.  All ages are welcome to attend.  Please call 315-986-5932 to reserve your spot.

Sat. 5/12: 2 pm  Puppy Tales  Children in grades K-5 are invited to read to a furry friend to develop confidence and fluency while reading aloud.  There is no registration required and several service dogs will be available.

Mon. 5/14: 6 pm  Seasonal Support Roll-On: Lemongrass and Peppermint  Mix a custom-blend of oils to create a roll-on that will be mentally soothing while also guarding against insects and indigestion issues.  A great item to have in your purse when traveling this summer!

Tues. 5/15: Noon  Lunch & Learn with Michael Sandel  Bring your own bag lunch and listen to a lecture series called, “Justice: What’s the Right Thing to Do?”  by Harvard Professor, Michael Sandel.

Sat. 5/19: NOON  CANALTOWN CINEMA: Screening of Josiah Henson: The Real Uncle Tom  Find out about the man Harriet Beecher Stowe based Uncle Tom’s Cabin on.  The story of Josiah Henson is one that is little-known, but very engaging to learn about. Find out how Josiah was born into slavery and eventually found freedom only after being sabotaged for exhibiting an astounding amount of dignity.  THERE IS NO CHARGE to attend this screening.  The theater will have snacks for sale to those interested in snacking while watching the film.  

Sat. 5/19: 2 pm  Ten One Act Plays  The Wayne Writers Guild will present readings of ten one act plays.  The brief plays are limited to two pages of dialogue.  Local writers have crafted these plays in the teen corner of the library.  Some of the plays deal with more mature themes, so parental guidance is suggested.  Light refreshments will be served.

Sat. 5/19: 3 pm Needlework & Niceties Bring your favorite needlework with you to the library and you can sit and stitch in the company of other needlework hobbyists in the library cafe.  Keurig beverages are available.

Sat. 5/19: 3 pm: Kitty Tales    Children of all ages are invited to read to a fluffy kitty who enjoys hearing a good story read aloud.

Sat. 5/26: 2 pm Memorial Day Weekend Matinee  Come to the library to watch a movie about a conscientious objector medic serving valiantly during World War II.  This movie is rated R and anyone under 17 must be accompanied by an adult to view the movie.

Mon. 5/28: The library will be closed in observance of Memorial Day.

Tues. 5/29: 6 pm  Glass Flower Necklaces  Make a beaded necklace with a glass flower pendant attached.  Pendants available in different colors and sizes.  For best selection, arrive early.  Registration is required.  A materials fee of $1.50 will apply.

Wed. 5/29: 7-9 pm Final Entrepreneur Workshop  Must be registered to participate.

Thurs. 5/31  1 pm Macaroon Day!  May 31 is designated as National Macaroon Day.  To celebrate, come to the library to learn how to make coconut macaroons.   A short TED Talk will be shown while the macaroons bake to perfection.  All participants will have a chance to eat the macaroons once they are finished baking.  There is no fee to participate, registration is requested.
