15. SPECIAL PRIZES - Swachh Bharat Mission 14.02.2021

 Neymat Mehra won two prizes from Municipal Corporation Of Gurgaon (MCG) for the competitions held for the Swachh Bharat Mission . This was a big event with over hundred participants. The winners were felicitated in a special ceremony organized by MCG yesterday where the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and the Commissioner of Gurgaon gave away the prizes.

on how the marketplaces can be kept cleaner .

This was a competition where the participants had to present a video and jingle for a cleaner and greener environment.

SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENTS BY STUDENTS/ STAFF Adya Khanna received a GOLD MEDAL in the Hindi Olympiad.

• Ananya Sud’s zentangle art drawing was published in the Times of India, student edition.

• Jasmine Maggo – Art Teacher was declared as the winner for “Artists' ' collage during Lockdown- 2 orgainsed by Shanker Art Foundation.

Sports

Exercise and play are two sides of the same coin for a young child. It is imperative to make fun and fitness dance in perfect harmony with each other, and create a jovial environment for the young minds.

• Starting every morning with a round of light warm up exercises brightens up the serene smile on every child’s face.
• Breathing exercises, Improving lung power, standing/sitting postures, using the left and the right brain, Exercises manoeuvring a soft ball, using a chair as a prop for exercises was thoroughly enjoyed.
• Yoga got an overwhelming response in all classes, with their little mats spread out we were witness to the flexible frames and the verve to learn of the little yogis.
• Imitating animal movements from Panchtantra and Jataka tales like hopping or prowling serve the purpose of advancing healthy habits along with improving concentration and observation skills.

Special days:

Online classes pose their own challenges. Assemblies, an integral part of boosting growth and confidence, were not allowed to take a backseat.

The homeroom time was judiciously used to give students assembly like  opportunities listed below:

Constitution day  26.11.2020 Live telecast of the reading of the preamble by the honourable president of India,

The revered book, an  original edition of the Constitution of the country was proudly taken by the school Headmistress to all six sections of  class 5. She personally explained what it meant and how  duties come before rights.

1. Mr. Rahul Prasad,a young,  Bengaluru based social entrepreneur and journalist interacted with the students of Class V and cited examples of success stories of corona warriors to motivate students and how we all can contribute to the community  with our little deeds.

2. Students of Class V had an interactive session with an Army officer - Lt. Col Puneet  Lakhanpal. He emphasized duties before rights.
3. Students of Class IV  had an interactive session with a Naval Officer - Commodore N. Anil Joseph  who spoke about our duties towards the nation and community.

Third Language Orientation Programme for Class III

ENVIRONMENT CONSCIOUSNESS

• Recycle & Reuse - Various craft activities and intra section competitions were carried out to emphasise the importance of reusing and recycling - namely - making beautiful newspaper bags, pen/ pencil holders, decorative hanging mobiles etc.

• Sapling Plantation - A regular ongoing process in and around the school, specially before monsoons is the plantation drive. The school awaits the children with lush green plants and well maintained gardens.

•  Farmhouse Learning - The school greens not only have the floral variety but there is a variety of fruits and vegetables like mulberry, ladyfinger, seasonal corn, jackfruit, cucumber, guavas, mango, jamun etc which bring the children informal learning from nature.

• Earth Day Celebration - Awareness and respect for mother nature was seen in the form of badges,collages, anti pollution collages and even writing a slogan on saving our earth.

•  Little Gardeners - Locked indoors gardening became one popular hobby. From 3 plus to 10 years old and  forgetting  the staff all were experimenting with green thumbs.

• Anti Firecracker Campaign - As a part of creating awareness among the student fraternity  an anti firecracker campaign was initiated to familiarise children with the harmful effects of exposure to firecrackersand the  child labour involved in the production of these fire crackers. A PowerPoint presentation prepared by the students of  the Environment Club, DPS R. K. Puram, on “Dos and Don’ts of Firecrackers,” was shown to the students of the primary school thereby reiterating the  importance of celebrating a Green Diwali.  

• ROAD SAFETY MONTH- FEBRUARY 2021- Activities for all classes were carried out to promote and be part of the advocacy campaign for road safety - Sadak Suraksha,  Jeevan Raksha 

SAFEGUARDING HEALTH

• Corona Awareness

 Talk about Coronavirus, videos , demonstration of covid protocol and display of posters as screen savers to drive awareness across this young age group.

• Gharelu Nuskhe with Grandparents

A hands-on activity revolving around home remedies especially in the times of Corona were conducted. Valuable inputs about eating turmeric, steaming and making concoctions were shared.

• Safety from Vector borne diseases

          Students were made aware of the mosquito menace of

          the monsoons and they were alerted about the do's and

          don'ts for prevention of vector borne diseases.

• World No Tobacco Day In Classes 4 & 5 - Students were made aware about the harmful effects of consuming tobacco and the detrimental effects on the lung health thereof. The children were trained in several lung exercises like blowing balloon, swimming tubes, mouth organ, whistle and conch shell were carried out to guide children to have stronger lungs.
•  Fit India Movement - 4th September 2020 onwards a special  exercise regime was initiated and talks and activities to inculcate healthy eating talks were organised. e.g. Kick start your day with a healthy breakfast.

•  Eat Better and Feel Better – An activity named ‘Smoothielicious’ was conducted to discuss the benefits of eating healthy food.
• Mental Well Being Art Competition  - A poster making competition was organised for students as well as parents of classes I to V on the theme – Mano Darpan - Mental Well-being. There was enthusiastic participation by both categories - especially parents. 

• Oral Hygiene and Us -  A demonstration was conducted by dentist Parents Dr Priyanka Popli , Dr Hiten Kalra and  Dr Amrita Chawla on 04 September 2020.  They made the students aware about the importance of proper brushing techniques and how to avoid plaque and cavities.

• Sessions on ‘Stress Management’ - New challenges emerged  in the Covid-19 scenario and sessions conducted by school counsellors  gave the parents a little insight into equipping themselves with concerns that were unheard of earlier.  Screen exposure, setting small milestones, forging routines, using time viably were the softer issues. The more serious concern was the safety and security of the little ones  and the disconcerting questions put up by the little minds in these difficult times.
