Salish Sea excursion: (Kathryn Cook)

Ask: Would like this excursion to be a permanent program and included in the yearly budget.

Program details: This is a 4 part program offered to all grade 4 and 5 students.

2022 Dates: November

Total cost: $4200 ($200 deposit in the next couple of weeks). Remainder of the funds not needed until early November.

Deposit approved, remaining funds advised to submit funding request ASAP for approval at GM - October 5th

7:15 Family meetings (Amanda/Kathy)

Child care will be provided

Held Sept, Jan, April. Specific time in September will need to be finalized

Attendance is encouraged. Would like as many family members there as possible! If not possible to attend, communicate to the teacher. Class coordinators will be chosen at the first family meeting.

7:24 Upcoming Events:

Picnic (Fiona): September 22. Bring your family, bring your own food.

Anti-racism (Jessica): September 27 activities set up outside. Wear your orange shirts!

Parent Education Night (Kathy): First week of October (Kathy)

Trustee Elections (Amanda): October 15. Would like to connect offline to better understand the candidates as they have a significant impact in the future of various programs such as: late immersion, string programs, etc. Jenn T. has some information as to how we can get to know the candidates.

Pizza Day (Fiona): October 26. Fill out forms! Due at the end of September. Looking for someone who can shadow Brooken this year as she will not be at school next year. Also need help for 45 minutes to distribute pizza for each division. Gluten free available. Soy cheese is lactose free but NOT dairy free/vegan.  It contains casein.

Emporium Day (Fiona): December 2. Shopping mall in the gym so kids can “buy” gifts during the holidays. Kids can pick 5 gifts for their family members.

7:47pm - Committee Updates

Clay Room (Fiona): Seems to be a go, safe to use. No clay room coordinator yet but some people are interested (Jessica).

Anti-Racism (Tina Tam/Jessica): Open to any new ideas but have plans for after school activities, book club, indiginous knowledge focus with Cedar - The Native Plants Guy (https://www.facebook.com/cedarhat)

Garden (Jaime): Note will be sent to start planting (beans/garlic) Oct. Mulch will also be delivered and would like to get kids involved before the winter. Also hoping to have an after school weeding party. Help is always wanted!

8:10pm Principal Update (Tim):

Staff Update: Erin Boude joining us as EA

Crossing Guards: Pillar (before/after), lunch will be posted externally and hoping Linda will get the position.

Terry Fox Run: Coming up this Friday at 1:45pm. Parents are welcome to join! All classes will be out at the same time. Help is needed! Jenn T and Fiona available to help.

Start of class: Will continue to have kids meet outside for the next few weeks but also have morning meeting spots for parents to meet with teachers. More details to come.

School visits: When coming into the building we request that you just come to the office and let Sue know. If you’ll be at the school for an extended period of time, please sign-in for safety reasons.

Criminal reference check: If you are ever working one on one with a child, driving students, taking any children to the bathroom or have a recurring role, you need a criminal reference check. Check only looks for any issues involving children. No cost to parents. Teachers/Tim is responsible for checks.

New affordability fund: A new fund to help families struggling with the increase in cost of living. $1.9M to Victoria School District. More details to come as Tim gathers more information on how to allocate the funding.

Class compositions: Class assignments have been approved as of this Friday (Sept. 9).

Sue update: Position has not been filled yet but will be posted.
