Competition Instructions
Individual Fall Competition | One Entry Per Chapter Level |
Objective: Create a video showcasing 5 books that are connected in any way you choose to highlight - genre, tropes, author, characters, etc - in the style of a social media reel.
Learning Targets:
- Students learn how to effectively structure and present information within a limited time frame.
- Encourages creativity in conveying connections between books.
- Students hone their skills in visual storytelling and creating engaging content.
- Students practice concise communication and editing skills.
Final Product Guidelines:
- Must be a video with a sharable link to a public or unlisted URL, such as YouTube.
- Suggested platforms: Animoto, Canva, iMovie
- Video can consist of either images of books and text on the screen OR the student speaking about the books as they show them.
- Must clearly be the student’s own original work - NO AI ALLOWED.
- Should be 30 to 60 seconds in length.
- Video should include:
- Images of 5 book covers with the following information about each:
- Title & author of book
- Clear connection to the other 4 books in the video
- Background music
- Follow fair use guidelines
- It is acceptable to use images of book covers for promotional or review purposes
- Video should be in the style of a social media “bookstagram” reel
- Video should clearly express the connection between the 5 books
- Video quality should be seamless, engaging, and professional

Student should self-assess their work using the following scoring rubric before submission.
Failure to meet all rubric requirements will result in loss of points.

Please note: The point values listed in each category represent the maximum possible points that can be earned. However, fewer points may be awarded based on the quality or completeness of the work. Meeting the basic requirements of a criteria does not guarantee full points; higher scores are awarded for more fully addressing the criteria and demonstrating higher quality of work.
