Students will:

  • Learn the Spanish alphabet, paying close attention to pronunciation, and the sound of the language.  With this, they will concentrate on vowel sounds, and how different they are from English.  A series of words will be learned.  Some will be cognates and false cognates. (1c.1l.NL.a, 1C.2l.NL.a, 1C.2l.NL.b, 4C.LC.N)
  • Learn subject pronouns.  Pronoun Substitution will be practiced, learning how compound subjects may be represented by certain pronouns. (1C.2l.NL.a)
  • Learn about Hispanic last names, and how they represent familial pride, and how they provide complete family orientation. (4C.CC.N)
  • Learn about the Rules of Spanish Pronunciation.  They will understand how the ending letter in most words will determine pronunciation.  Beyond that, they will learn that the accent mark will also determine pronunciation. (4C.LC.N)
  • Learn the difference between the two second person pronouns, tú and usted.  They will understand the language and cultural aspect of using either of these pronouns.  This concept will also be expanded to the plural forms, vosotros and ustedes. (2C.Cl.N.a, 4C.LC.N)
  • Learn about the Spanish language and the importance of gender in all aspects of the language.  Articles, both definite and indefinite will be learned and used. (2C.Cl.N.a, 4C.LC.N)
  • Learn simple greetings and farewells, and simple questions as in “What is your name?”, in order to enter into very basic conversation. (1C.1l.NL.a, 1C.P.NL.a, 4C.LC.N)

Students will:

  • Learn “La Cortesía” or words and phrases of courtesy.  They will learn that there are certain uses of these phrases, based on the target culture. (1C.1l.NL.a, 1C.P.NL.a, 4C.LC.N)
  • Learn family vocabulary and the grammatical ins and outs of their use. (1C.2l.NL.b, 3C.lP.N, 4C.LC.N)
  • Learn their first verb “ser” - to be.  They will learn that it is one of two verbs of being, and under what circumstances one uses it. (1C.1l.NL.a, 1C.2l.NL.a, 3C.lP.N, 4C.LC.N)
  • Learn adjectives and how they relate to the verb ser. (1C.2l.NL.b, 2C.lC.NL.a, 2C.lC.NL.a)
  • Learn sentence agreement.  This will be done through several instances of writing practice. (1C.2l.NL.a)
  • Learn numbers from 0 - 100.  They will then be able to ask and tell age, talk about how many things, and how many siblings, cousins, etc. (1C.2l.NL.b, 1C.1l.NL.a)
  • Learn numbers from 100 - 5000.  With that, they will be able to talk about the year. (1C.1l.NL.a, 1C.2l.NL.b)
  • Learn about the Quinceañera. (2C.lC.NL.a, 2C.Cl.N.a, 3C.lP.N, 3C.MC.N)

Students will:

  • Learn school subjects vocabulary. (1C.2l.NL.b)
  • Learn classroom vocabulary and classroom commands.  (1C.2l.NL.b)
  • Learn how to make sentences and questions negative. (1C.1l.NL.a)
  • Review numbers, in order to learn how to tell time. (1C.1l.NL.a)
  • Learn seasons, months, days, and dates. (1C.2l.NL.b)
  • Learn their second verb “estar”, the other verb of being, and under what circumstances to use it. (1C.1l.NL.a, 1C.2l.NL.a, 3C.lP.N, 4C.LC.N)
  • Learn additional adjectives that work well with estar. (1C.2l.NL.b)
  • Learn the difference between ser and estar. (1C.1l.NL.a, 1C.2l.NL.a, 3C.lP.N, 4C.LC.N)
  • Review all topics previously learned.

Students will:

  • Learn “ar” verb definitions, and what it means to be an infinitive verb. (1C.2l.NL.b)
  • Learn about Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) - what it is, and the cultural significance. (2C.lC.NL.a, 2C.Cl.N.a, 3C.lP.N, 3C.MC.N)
  • Learn about what verb conjugation is.  This would include understanding their life long association with verb conjugation.  Many students do not understand that they have always conjugated. (2C.Cl.N.a, 3C.lP.N, 3C.MC.N, 4C.LC.N)
  • Learn the actual forms of ar conjugation for regular ar verbs.  There will be a large amount of conjugation practice, using a variety of worksheets found in the teacher generated binder. (1C.1l.NL.a, 1C.2l.NL.a, 1C.2l.NL.b, 1C.P.NL.a)
  • Learn how to write, speak, read, and understand Spanish that includes ar verb usage. (1C.1l.NL.a, 1C.2l.NL.a, 1C.2l.NL.b, 1C.P.NL.a)
  • Learn how to translate from Spanish to English.  Translation #1 from Binder 2 will be used. (1C2l.NL.b, 3C.MC.N, 4C.CC.N, 4C.LC.N)

  • Learn about the special verb “hay”.  Students will learn that hay works very well in a wide variety of situations. (1C.1l.NL.a, 1C.2l.NL.b, 4C.LC.N)
  • Learn technology vocabulary. (1C.2l.NL.b)
  • Learn vocabulary for the house (rooms, structure, furnishings). (1C.2l.NL.b)
  • Learn how to introduce people. (1C.1l.NL.a, 1C.2l.NL.b, 4C.LC.N)
  • Learn possessive adjectives, and how to use them in order to maintain agreement. (1C.1l.NL.a, 1C.2l.NL.b, 4C.LC.N, 3C.MC.N)
  • Learn “er” and “ir” verb definitions, and what it means to be an infinitive verb. (1C.2l.NL.b)

  • Learn food vocabulary, and how to order food. (1C.2l.NL.b, 1C.1l.NL.a)
  • Continue learning how to translate with translation #2, from Binder #3. (1C.2l.NL.b, 3C.MC.N, 4C.CC.N, 4C.LC.N)
  • Learn the two verbs saber and conocer.  They both mean “to know”, but in different circumstances.  There will be a large amount of practice with the difference, and with writing and speaking practice. (1C.1l.NL.a, 1C.2l.NL.a, 1C.2l.NL.b, 1C.P.NL.a)
  • Gain insight into classic Spanish literary figures by watching the TBS version of Don Quixote, which is known for its accuracy of story. (3C.lP.N, 3C.MC.N, 4C.CC.N, 5C.SG.N)
  • Learn an additional list of adjective vocabulary. (1C.2l.NL.b)
  • Learn Phrases with the verb “tener”.  These several phrases are used for several common ideas and phrases. 1C.2l.NL.b, 1C.P.NL.a, 2C.lC.NL.a)
  • Learn clothing vocabulary. (1C.2l.NL.b)
  • Learn 10 very important very irregular verbs, both definitions and conjugations.  These verbs will stress the importance of memorizing, as the only way to truly know a target language. (1C.2l.NL.a, 1C.2l.NL.b)
