CAMBRIDGE AND DISTRICT LEAGUE
Matches in the Cambridge and District Bowls league consist of 4 rinks of 3 players. String is used to mark the edge of each rink and if a bowl touches or crosses the string it is declared dead. If the jack (or cot) touches or crosses the string then the end is declared dead. Each rink plays 18 ends and a point is scored for each of your team’s bowls that are within a yard of the jack and which are nearer to the jack than any of the opponents bowls. A match point is awarded for each winning rink and three extra match points are awarded to the team with the highest aggregate score. The format of the game is known locally as "roving cot".
All matches are played in the evenings; from late April to August the start time is 6.30pm; in August, matches start at 6.15pm
After Longstanton’s home matches, visiting players are invited to join us; in the Western Park Pavilion bar for a hot or cold drink and a chat.
