Preschool Screening
The early childhood years from birth to the start of kindergarten are an important time of rapid learning and growth. Early childhood developmental screening helps a school district identify children who may benefit from district and community resources that may help their development. Early childhood developmental screening includes a vision screening that helps detect potential eye problems but is not a substitute for a comprehensive eye exam.
What is Early Childhood Screening? Screening is a simple, careful check of your child's physical development, thinking skills, speech and language, and social/emotional health. It is designed to ensure the healthy growth of students to be successful in any educational setting, and if needed, connect them to resources that will support their development. Screening is FREE through your local school district.
Should I wait until my child is in kindergarten? No, children may be screened between the ages of 3-5 (prior to Kindergarten), but ideally between their 3rd and 4th birthday. The screening tool is based on your child’s current age at the time of screening.
What else? In order for your child to start kindergarten in any Minnesota public school, you will need to provide your school with your child’s Early Childhood Screening Summary.
How do I schedule a screening? To schedule a screening please call the Sibley East Elementary School Office at (507) 237-5511.
