Psychology PhD Personal Statement

This academic statement of purpose is an integral part of the application and will be weighted heavily in the evaluation process. Your statement should articulate your aptitude and preparation for graduate study in the area of specialization you are applying to and should, at minimum, address the following points:

• What research problems or questions interest you and why?
• What knowledge, skills, or experiences do you have that will ensure your success in a research-focused graduate program (e.g., mathematics, statistics, programming, computer science abilities, and/or other relevant research skills)?
• What do you plan to do with your degree, and how will graduate school further your career goals?  
• Which faculty do you hope to work with, and why?

Directions: Submit a concise, well-written essay of 1,000 words or fewer. Your essay should be double-spaced, and approximately four pages in length.
