General information

Q. When does school start?

*AA cohorts will meet in person, BB cohorts and eLearners will attend classes virtually this day. For AA students on August 17-18: K-2nd Grade please park in visitor parking or at Lockheed and meet your teachers on the small turf. 3rd-5th Grade please park in visitor parking or at Lockheed and meet your teachers on the large turf.

**BB cohorts on August 20-21: K-2nd Grade please park in visitor parking or at Lockheed and meet your teachers on the small turf. 3rd-5th Grade please park in visitor parking or at Lockheed and meet your teachers on the large turf.

Q. Can my child who participates in In-Person learning complete eLearning when they are sick?

While we appreciate your desire to keep your child engaged in learning, we are only able to assign e-Learning work to our eLearners and In-person learners who have been placed in isolation or quarantine. In-Person learners will have 2 days for each day they are absent to make up the work missed in class.

If the symptoms do not resolve in the 24 to 48-hour window listed in the First Indication of Illness Flow Chart, the attendance office will place them in 10-day isolation and transition them to eLearning for that time period. During that time they will complete elearning work.

Q. Where can I find out my student’s teacher/class schedule?

You can find your student’s classroom teacher or MS/HS schedule in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal.

Q. When does each hybrid schedule meet?

AA BB Hybrid/In-Person Schedules

eLearning

Q. Why are we starting with Hybrid learning?

Q. How does the traffic line work?
Please watch each of the linked videos below to view our new “Reverse” traffic pattern. Reversing the traffic pattern will eliminate the “stall” at the roundabout. Due to COVID, we cannot currently allow walkers. Large groups congregating at the turf and walker area do not allow for proper social distancing.

Q. Do we still wear uniforms during hybrid learning?  eLearning?
Uniforms are still required for all in-person learning even during our hybrid learning period. Students are not required to wear uniforms while eLearning from home. However, we do expect our eLearning students to attend their Google Meets in appropriate attire. For a full list of uniform/embroidery vendors, approved uniform attire, and more please see our Parent Handbook.

Q.  When are school fees due and do I have to pay them if enrolled in the eLearning program?
School fees were due with Express check in, no later than August 3rd. Please login to MySchoolBucks if you have not paid. The eLearning student is being asked to pay all school fees for their classes.  While the eLearning students will not utilize in-person learning, they will access the eLearning platforms which have individual fees associated for each student’s access. Some students will also receive a packet of materials to use at home for eLearning. We also have a fee to pay with the eLearning program.  All fees are due at the beginning of the year. If an enrollment change happens, you will receive a credit. Please review the  Student Fee Policy for additional information.

Learning Platform Information (In-Person/eLearning/Hybrid and More!)

Q. Is there a place to find all SVA’s virtual learning tools online?
Yes!  Please see our
2020-2021 Virtual Learning Site on our SkyView Academy website under the COVID tab. We are still putting the finishing touches on our learning site but we wanted you to be able to preview it.

Q. If a family chooses eLearning for the first quarter and then opts to come back for the 2nd quarter will the student be behind?
Students will not be behind if eLearning is the selected method.  But it is important to note that eLearning can't replace the in-person learning experience.

Q. Will the eLearning curriculum parallel the ‘in-person’ learning meaning will students be working on the same topics at the same time?

Yes, however, the topics will be covered by the teacher for in-person learners and via the Seesaw, IXL, or Canvas platform for the eLearners.

Q. Will eLearning students need to complete prior in-person assignments to catch up?  Especially in math and science?

No. Every effort will be made to ensure that eLearning students will be in the place as our In-Person learning. Areas that will be monitored closely are K-12 math, ES Reading progression, and MS writing expectation. When eLearners return to school, we will strategize and plan ways to address any skill gaps.

Q. Will electives be offered under the eLearning curriculum?

In ES, eLearners will be provided a Monthly SPECIALS Bingo board that will be required for completion. In MS, the eLearning option is not able to provide electives. It will only be able to focus on core subjects and Spanish. We are considering ways to provide MS students with the ability to watch instruction via a recorded session for Band, Art, Leadership, and Choir.

Q. Will Hybrid students have required classes online on Wednesdays?
During the Hybrid Learning Schedule please note the following:

Q. Is there concern over internet safety during eLearning or Hybrid Learning at home?

We have worked diligently to protect our students. All eLearning platforms will be filtered through our Google SVA Domain. Additionally, Google made significant improvements to Google Meet. During the 2020-2021 school year, we will use Google Meets for our virtual meetings because they will be restricted to users in our domain.

Q.  I cannot login to my new SVA gmail account.  I am getting an error message.  Why am I locked out?
Make sure that all other email accounts are completely closed before trying to access your child's email/google classroom account.  If any other accounts are open in the background this will not work.  This is part of our school security measures.  Watch this video for more information on logging in.

Misc. Information

Q.  What if my student has to leave school for an appointment?
To minimize disruption during your child's classroom time we recommend scheduling appointments on your eLearning days this year.

Q.  My student lost their lunchbox.  Where can we find the lost and found this year?
Please remember to label ALL student personal items with their full names (no initials).  We will try to reunite found items with students to the best of our ability.  Anything that we cannot place back with a student will be disposed of.

Q.  I would like to volunteer.  How will that work this year?
At this time the rules for visitors and volunteers in the building apply primarily to parents. We rarely have visitors in our building that are not parents for safety reasons. That amount of building access increases our risk of potential exposure for our staff and students.  If there are opportunities for volunteering that require no-contact we will alert our volunteer community.

Q.  Will students have lockers this year?
Middle and high school students will not have lockers this year.  They will carry belongings in their backpacks.

Q. When will we have school photos?
At this time, we are not able to welcome the photographers into the building. Nor can we welcome visitors in for the "Normal" start of the year activities. We completed all the essential beginning of the year items online. School pictures remain TBD at this time. We will inform the community as soon as we are able to host photographers and schedule times for photos to take place.

Q. If I have an eLearner do I still need to buy school supplies?
Due to COVID students will not share supplies to the greatest extent possible. So, there is no need to purchase supplies for the classroom at this time. The school supplies used by the eLearners at home will vary by school. Elementary students will need supplies for Art. That list was emailed out last week. The email is copied below. These supplies can be used for any ES subject while learners remain home. In the event, we return to complete capacity, in-person, our eLearners will need supplies from the supply list. But at this time eLearners can hold off on purchasing supplies. In MS and HS, teachers will communicate any items needed in the first three weeks of school.

ES ART SUPPLIES:
The following is a list of supplies that will be used for online art lessons this year: a sketchbook, pencils with erasers, a  box of crayons, a box of colored pencils, a box of markers, scissors, glue, a watercolor paint set with brush, and unlined paper (8.5x11),(50 sheets).

Q.  Will we have meet and greets this year?
There will be a required Google Meet each Wednesday for the first three weeks of school for the entire grade level with the classroom teachers. Teachers will send their schedule of these meetings to their families.

Q.  I would like to donate pre-owned uniforms to the Hawk Shop?  How will that work this year?
The Hawk Shop will still be taking donations but only during the Hawk Shop outdoor events.  Donations brought to the school will not be accepted at this time.

Q. What is the plan for lightning dismissal / inclement weather?
In the event of a lightning dismissal, or an inclement weather dismissal, we will hold students inside their classrooms until the weather has passed.  We ask that parents wait in their vehicles.  SVA will use email, text, the marquee, and social media to keep parents updated during this time.  Once the inclement weather has passed we will resume regular pickup.

COVID/Illness

Q. How many cases are considered an outbreak that might require a quarantine of staff or students?
At this point, Tri-County considers 5 cases an outbreak. IMPORTANT to NOTE: Douglas County has petitioned to remove itself from the governance of Tri-County Health. While this decision is considered, the SVA Leadership Team is monitoring information from the CDC and Tri-County Health Department.

Q. If Quarantine is required will students all just transition to eLearning using the IXL platform?
Yes.

Q. If a student or staff member reports COVID symptoms or goes home because of symptoms or has been exposed to COVID outside of school, will all students and staff exposed to that person be notified immediately even if no COVID test is administered or reported?
State mandates are still under review in this area. At this time only CONFIRMED cases will be reported. The confidentiality of the individual who is ill will be held in the strictest confidence.  It is currently deemed negligent to report suspected cases based on symptoms alone because the symptoms of COVID are similar to many illnesses including Influenza A and B.

Q. I know the plan mentions social distancing - how will this be accomplished in classrooms, and what distance will be encouraged?
The staff is measuring out the recommended physical distance in their classroom. In classes that the distance can't be accomplished, masks are required for students 10 years and older. In ES specials classrooms, masks will be strongly encouraged for students under the age of 10 and required for students in 5th grade and above in compliance with the state of Colorado’s mandate.  Additionally, because of the unavoidable movement during a class period, masks are required in all MS/HS elective courses regardless of the ability to physically distance.

Q. What if a child in a cohort tests positive will the Spanish or Specials teachers have to quarantine?
If a child in a cohort tested positive, a specials or Spanish teacher of that cohort may not have to quarantine. The determiner here lies in the definition of "contact". Contact means a person who has been inside 6' social distancing for at least 15 minutes. This definition becomes important when investigating contact tracing. To ensure our staff risk is reduced, we are requiring a six foot distance from the front of the room to the first set of desks.
