Water Testing Update to Families

February 16, 2021

Dear Families,

This letter is to provide an update regarding water testing for all MaST Schools.  Under Act 39 of 2018, schools may, but are not required to, test for lead levels annually in the drinking water of any facility where children attend school. If schools choose not to test, they must hold a public meeting on the topic.

During the 2018-2019 school year, the water was tested at MaST Byberry and MaST II Lawncrest.  Over the summer of 2019, the water was tested again at MaST II Lawncrest because we installed new water filtration devices in both buildings and wanted to ensure it was safe.  In December 2019, the water was tested at MaST II Tacony and MaST III.  In all cases at all MaST Schools campuses, the lead levels were well below the EPA’s action level of 15 ppb.  The reports containing the results can be found on each school’s Public Notices section of the website.  For your convenience, these are directly linked below:

Because it’s once again been a short time period since our previous water testing for all campuses and all levels were significantly lower than the 15 ppb action level, we are not testing this year.  During the absence of students during the pandemic, we have regularly run water at all locations to ensure that water has not been stagnant in pipes.  As is required by law, because we’re not testing, this will be an agenda topic at our upcoming School Board meetings.  These meetings will occur on Wednesday, February 17 as indicated on each school’s website.

Thank you,

John F. Swoyer III, Chief Executive Officer
