Ma’rifa 2025: Justice at Hand

Financial Aid Application Guidelines

Please note that you are responsible for making your travel and lodging arrangements.

You must be a registered attendee and current undergraduate or graduate student to apply.

Eligibility: Shi’a Student based in the United States or Canada with an annual household income below $75,000, attending Ma’rifa 2025.

Ma’rifa will reimburse you for travel and lodging expenses subject to the guidelines below. Reimbursement forms will be sent to you after the conference. Be sure to save all of your travel receipts and return them with your completed reimbursement form after the conference. Ma’rifa cannot reimburse you without your receipts.  

Ma’rifa will reimburse up to:  

• $98 for hotel lodging (¼ of the total cost of a room for two days, inclusive of taxes - we encourage 4 people to room together).

• $300 for flights (If you are flying to and from Los Angeles).

OR

• $150 for trains/gas for cars (If you are taking a train or bus or are driving to and from Los Angeles).

As per the following cases:

• Non-Acela, coach train tickets for travel to and from Los Angeles, CA;  
• Economy airfare for travel to and from Los Angeles, CA;  
• Bus tickets for travel to and from Los Angeles, CA;  
• A flat rate per mile for those driving to the conference.

Ma’rifa will not reimburse for checked luggage or food.

Ma’rifa expects all attendees to be prompt and present for all of the conference sessions. We reserve the right to refuse reimbursement or retroactively investigate upfront funding for absent attendees. You must be present for the entire conference to be eligible for reimbursement.
