Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development Policy - Compliance

Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development Policy

This policy is applicable to all pupils in the School
including those in an EYFS setting.

Cheadle Hulme School is committed to promoting the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development (SMSC) of its pupils; to actively ensure that they develop personal qualities necessary for themselves and society as a whole. The School expects all members of the School community to value and respect themselves whilst also demonstrating respect for other pupils, staff and the wider community. The School actively promotes equality, diversity & inclusion.

SMSC teaching and learning will be embedded throughout the School’s curriculum and across School life. There will be dedicated Form Time and Waconian Programme lessons in the Senior School and  Learning for Life lessons
in the Junior School. Through curriculum and dedicated lessons, CHS will promote the aims and principles of other relevant policies, the ethos of the School and the development of positive attitudes and values. It will also have regard to the Prevent Duty and similar obligations.

It is the expectation that all staff in every subject are
able to and should contribute to the spiritual, moral, cultural and social development of pupils through the taught curriculum. Staff will use appropriate teaching and learning strategies including pupil participation, discussion and reflection exercises.

Staff will ensure that there is a balanced presentation of controversial issues without partisan political views being expressed through teaching. Pupils will be expected to respect Fundamental
British Values including democracy and respect for the civil and criminal law.
