WHEELER LIBRARY CHECKOUT POLICIES

ALL students will have the opportunity to check out books from the Wheeler Library. If you DO NOT want your child to check out books, you may complete the OPT-OUT form below. Digital books and resources are also available to all students at any time on our libguide (see the back of this form for access info).

Book Care/Responsibility: Books should be kept in a consistent, safe dry place off the ground and free from food/drinks, pets, babies or small children, and art supplies (including writing tools and scissors). They should be transported inside a clean backpack away from a lunchbox and precipitation. The most common damage that we see are wet books, which will grow mold and can no longer be circulated. We do not charge late fees, however, if a book is damaged or lost, including accidents, the replacement cost (exact cash, no coins - no change sent home) or a new copy will be requested. If your family has a hardship, it is discussed on a case by case basis by emailing Mizz B (librarian) at carrie.brown@jefferson.kyschools.us.

Book return bins are in each grade level cove or they can be returned directly to the library during class. Students benefit from reminders, and we do send home reminders of overdue book titles and due dates just to help. Please help your student search for the book and return it to the library. We often have other students waiting to check out your student’s choice. We appreciate the help you offer with timely return.

Kindergarten students may check out one book. Books will come home in a designated book bag. Please read and return books in the designated bag within one week to enable a new checkout.

First and Second Grade students may check out 2 books each. (First Grade will begin the year with one book and work their way up to 2 books.) Borrow period: One Week. 2nd grade may renew once if more time is needed.

Third through Fifth Graders may check out three books at a time. Borrow period: Two weeks. If more time is needed with a book, students may bring the book to be renewed once.
