HEREAFTER Application Information
HEREAFTER is the second production produced by Body Artifacts Performance Incubator. Body Artifacts curates site specific, concept based dance performances.
HEREAFTER will take place at Substance Skatepark on April 26th, 2026, 8 p.m.
Body Artifacts seeks Body Artifacts seeks 2-3 choreographers to collaborate on HEREAFTER. Commissioned choreographers will produce new works, centered around one of the Parts described below.
Applications will open on September 5th, and close on September 25th. Applicants will be notified by October 5th.
Selections are made based on demonstrated conceptual understanding, strength of work samples, and enthusiasm for collaboration. Selections are made by a panel of curators made up of dancers and choreographers.
Performance Concept:
In a time of political/social/environmental upheaval, it feels important to confront the future, and imagine how we might want to rebuild. This performance takes a three- piece approach to this narrative arc; death, riot, and rebirth.
Part 1 (death) asks who and where are we now? Set the stage. Reflect our current state- what problems are we facing now.
Part 2 (riot) asks you to imagine the fall. What does rebellion look like? What do we need to destroy in order to rebuild? What systems need to be overthrown?
Part 3 (rebirth) asks what we want to rebuild, and to imagine a new way of being.
Structures:
This work has a unique format. Each “part” will be choreographed by a different choreographer. Our idea is that, to enhance the narrative structure, the dancers cast in Part 1 and Part 2 come together to dance in Part 3. This is open to discussion.
We are looking for true collaborators who are interested in ongoing conversation along the way! We will likely meet in person to discuss ideas as a first step after the creative team has assembled.
The sound design/ score for the entire performance will be made in collaboration with Sqore (Em Sgouros).
Due to the site specific nature of the performance, which takes place inside of the halfpipe, we will have once or twice monthly rehearsals at Substance. Morning availability will be required for this.
At this time, Body Artifacts cannot provide stipends. After ticket sales open in 2026, we hope to be able to provide stipends, but cannot provide precise estimates at this time. We understand and acknowledge the amount of time and effort artists put into this work, and do not take it lightly. We will try our absolute best to compensate, and hope for your understanding in such a difficult economic/artistic climate!
