Dear D60 families,

I hope you have enjoyed the first few weeks of summer! The district is seeking members of our community to serve on a newly formed Board of Education Equity Committee.

The Board Equity Committee has been tasked with examining policies and practices to ensure that all students achieve their maximum potential, and recommending any changes to the full Board. Some tasks of the committee will include a review of academic and social emotional assessment data for sub groups of students, a review of instructional and discipline practices to ensure they are culturally relevant and support high student engagement, and a review of human resource practices and professional development for staff to ensure they support the district’s goals. I am sure that other tasks will emerge once the committee is formed.

This committee will be comprised of Board members, D60 staff, and parents/community members. The Board anticipates that this work will occur over the course of the 2019-20 school year, with meetings occurring on a bi-monthly basis in the evening. While the committee will not vote on District matters, it will provide useful insight to Board members, and it will guide discussion during Board of Education meetings.

Interested parties should use the online application to apply to serve on the committee. Applications will be accepted through Sunday, July 14, 2019.

We are excited to partner with our community! Please contact me with any questions you have about this process.

Regards,
