Dear Middle School Parents and Students,

As you have seen, we will start remote learning officially on March 31. At the middle school level, we want to share what this will look like.

The instructional platform that we will use is Google Classroom. The majority of our teachers have been using this all year so it should be familiar to the students. In a student’s schedule there are eight class periods on a day 1 and a day 2 combined. To start this remote learning process, each teacher will be assigning 1 assignment on Google Classroom on Tuesday morning, March 31, by 8:30am. As a student, you will have the rest of the week to complete the assignments assigned. Assignments will be due on Friday, April 3.

Parents, you can help your student by setting up a schedule for the week to help spread the assignments out. An example would be to complete two subject areas on Tuesday, maybe math and language arts and on Wednesday, social studies and an elective class and so on for the rest of the week. The assignments will be designed for each subject to have a 15-20 minute instruction video on Google classroom with an assignment or task that should take 30-40 minutes on average.

Teachers will be available through email for any questions you may have regarding that specific content area. For other general questions like technology, please email your advisor.

This first week, it will really be about setting up a schedule for students and getting all the quirks out with using the technology for teachers and students. You can also expect to hear from your advisor twice a week from here on out while we are remote learning. Advisors will be checking in with students academically, socially/emotionally. As we enter remote learning, we all need to exercise patience and collaborate to make it a success for our students.

I will update you every Monday on our website link with any changes or adjustments that we are making. I wish all of you the best during this challenging time. Stay safe!
