Welcome Letter from the SO@GT Executive Board

Dear Coaches,

Congratulations on your team’s performance at your recent regional tournament, and welcome to the 2025 Georgia Division C Science Olympiad State Tournament! We are excited to welcome you to Georgia Tech, located in the heart of Midtown Atlanta.

2025 marks our fifth year hosting the State tournament, and each year, we hope to improve the tournament experience for students and coaches. This year, we have planned a variety of events both throughout the day and during the closing ceremony so students can both participate in the tournament and learn more about Georgia Tech.

The State tournament could not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of our many volunteers, many of whom will be supervising events during tournament day. As many of our team are Georgia Science Olympiad alumni, we believe that their participation in Science Olympiad has shaped their career paths at Tech. We’re honored to provide a platform for future generations of students to experience the same opportunities and gain valuable skills and knowledge in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

This document is a centralized location for communications regarding logistics for the upcoming tournament, which we will update as necessary. We also have information posted on our website at https://sciolygatech.org. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to email us at scioly.gatech@gmail.com.

We look forward to seeing you on campus later this month, and we wish you all good luck at the upcoming State competition!

Signed,

Science Olympiad at Georgia Tech Executive Board

Policies

Science Olympiad Code of Ethics

Competitors for all tournaments are expected to follow the general rules outlined by National Science Olympiad which can be found at https://www.soinc.org/code-ethics-general-rules.

Spectator and Photography Policy

Spectators will be allowed for the Bungee Drop, Tower, Scrambler, Electric Vehicle, Air Trajectory, and Helicopter events. Spectators must remain in designated spectator zones. To protect and assure the privacy of competitors’, event supervisors’ and volunteers’ information, photography will only be permitted to head coaches and other members of the same team with wristbands to respect the privacy of other team builds. Any violation of this prohibition may violate the SOINC Student, Coach, and Parent Pledges, and SOINC Media Recommendations.

Volunteers and event supervisors reserve the right to ask any spectator to leave the premises of the event for any reason. Event supervisors may penalize the spectator’s affiliated team for unsportsmanlike behavior at their discretion.

Clarifications

We will be following all rules clarifications posted by the National Science Olympiad on or before March 26th, 2025.

Communications

At no point should coaches have direct contact with event supervisors or volunteers - only competitors should. For all communications, coaches should contact the Tournament Directors, either through Remind or at Mason 1333. Regarding appeals/arbitrations, competitors should inform the ES they plan to appeal and leave any build component at the event location, while coaches should contact the Tournament Directors (not the ES) ASAP.

Required Paperwork

Check email sent on March 20th; each email is personalized. You will not be able to compete without submitting all the required paperwork. Please also note that coaches/school chaperones will be the official chaperones and will be responsible for competitors at all times, including during events.

Check-In Information

Check-in for teams will begin at 7:15 AM, and location will vary based on homerooms. If your homeroom is in Skiles, your check-in will be located outside at the Skiles courtyard - please use the bus loop located at 661 Hemphill Ave NW for dropoff. If your homeroom is in Van Leer, East Architecture, or West Architecture, your check-in will be located in the East Architecture lobby - please use the bus loop at 261 4th St NW for dropoff. After checking in, you will be accompanied to your homeroom by a member of the SO@GT team so they can ensure you have access to the room and can promptly deal with any issues that arise. If you arrive later than 8:15 AM, please go to Mason 1133 for check-in. Please note: your homeroom will not be unlocked prior to check-in.

Location Clarification

You may notice that Robot Tour and Electric Vehicle are located in the Petit building, shorthand for the Parker H. Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences. Note that there are two buildings on campus with very similar names, the other being the Pettit Microelectronics Building. The correct building is located just Northeast of the intersection of Ferst Dr. and Atlantic Dr. Please see the image below with the correct building (Petit) boxed in blue and the incorrect building (Pettit) boxed in red. Tech Green and Ferst Drive are also labeled for reference points.

Tournament Schedule

Closing Ceremony

This year we will be hosting awards in the CULC lecture halls. There will be two concurrent awards ceremonies (one per flight); teams C1 - C13 will be located in CULC 144 while teams C14 - C37 will be located in CULC 152. Doors will open at 6:00 PM.

Parking & Dropoff

Bus Dropoff will vary by homeroom location (see Check-In Information). Upon check-in, coaches will receive a bus pass that will be used for parking entry.

The address for navigating parking for buses is 422 Ferst Dr NW, Atlanta, GA 30313, GA 30318. This address is for the Kendada building. The actual parking lot is W21 Physics/Boggs/Mason Parking Lot and will be across from the Kendeda building as shown in the picture below. There will be an attendant upon arrival of the parking lot who will let buses in.

All other vehicles, such as cars, will need to use the W02 Student Center Parking Garage (Visitor Area 3, 355 Ferst Dr NW, Atlanta, GA 30332), W21 Howey Parking Lot (Visitor Area 4, State Street & Ferst Drive, Atlanta, GA 30332), or W23 North Campus Parking Garage (Visitor Area 5, State Street NW, Atlanta, GA 30332) and pay upon exit.
